Hi.
just got the game yesturday (that first kill was swEEEEEt, although it was on training LOL) and have noticed ALOT of information on mods that change/improve graphics and wondered which ,if any, are the best mods to use in the game? also should i steer clear of the seawolves and battle in mediteranian as these may be just ripoffs of the free stuff available.
thanks for any help you guys can give me

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Play the stock game to learn the basics. Once you have explored as much as possible withing the stiock game, try a super-mod. That will put you back to the learning stage...
I played several carrers before switching to Grey Wolves. It was like having a new game! So enjoyable.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Must have Mods

Patch 1.4b (playing current version is always best)

SH3 Gen (Stand alone save file spiker)

Grey Wolves 1.1a (means 6 parts + 2 patches)
JSGME Mod Manager!!! (OMG just needed)

almost everything else is optional<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I recommend you play the vanilla version with the 1.4b patch for a week because by that time GWX will be out. This is a SUPER mod. It will have it ALL and more.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

GWX GWX GWX did i mention GWX? I agree with AVG keep your instalation clean for now (just patch to 1.4) and wait for GWX, no other mod out there comes close. In fact I think its fair to say GWX isnt actually a mod at all. Its an unoffical expansion pack and contains everything you can dream of.
Play stock for while though so when you play GWX you will realise just how much of an improvement it is.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

A 'must have' feature
Fully operational AI subs are as important as AI ships and planes -They were there-. Please dont repeat SH3's biggest Short coming in SHIV.
Thank you

All supermods and mini mods are totally safe, just stay away from Sea Wolves Expansion(store bought or download), that's got Big Brother spyware, and packed full of stolen community freeware mods. Infact, all SH3 mods and utilities are freeware, because they are made from gamers like you and me.

Good places to get SH3 mods are Subsim Downloads (http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/patches2005.html#sh3), Uboot RealSimulation(UBRS) (http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/), and the SubSim Radio Room SH3 Mods Workshop (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/index.php).

Take your time like everyone says, because there are some excellent Supermods awaiting release very soon, like GWX(Grey Wolves Exspansion) or Uboat War Ace Campaign v2.0. Dont ask which is better, because they are all personal preferrence.

Must needed downloads are like SH3 Commander, JSGME(Generic Mod Enabler), and Multi SH3(for multiple SH3 installs/Stock, GW's, UBWA etc) made from our very own friend TheRealPotoroo.

I too have been looking around for mods, and have downloaded a few to try out. All of the advice posted on this thread is correct. The biggest thing is to make sure your system exceeds SH3 min req. I am a little light on the RAM so the Supermods are a bit sluggish

Tuddley3's posted links are the places I've downloaded from . I have enjoyed using SH3 Commander, JSGME, SH3 Weather.

Also check out the sticky "New to SH3..." by VikingGrandad

You may also want to try out voice commands.. using a microphone to command your crew- it's friggin awesome.

Download Shoot and the speech recognition engine from here:

Use this profile and follow the installation instructions:
