Just curious,
In SP for (PF, IL2,AEP or FB)what is your highest mission completed? I haven't got very far because i got a mission going for every flyable http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Not to mention it takes a year and a day to make it across these maps even with 8x timeskip on http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I finished all the campaigns in IL2 and FB. My goal was to finish one without dying, but I couldn't do it.

Wow you did?...How many missions was it? I think i reached 17 or so, but had to reformat or uninstall for some reason or another, not due to the game but from me always tinkering about on my machine http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Some of them are a couple of hundred missions. I think. I stopped counting after awhile. You know what's even worse than that? For the longest time I would start over if I got killed. I was at 100 missions once when I started over.

In the original IL-2, I didnt know of the online part of the game, so all I played was offline. I got up to about 160 or so missions in the 109. There was a campaign where after so long in the 109, you got to fly the 190 as a test pilot, you went back to the 109 for a few missions then started flying the 190 in combat. Was really cool. I'm not sure where i got the campaign, if it was original or an add-on(player or patch) but it was the real last campaign that I played before going on line with FB.

Whew, that was a long time ago.

Until a month ago i was a strictly offline player. The furthest i have gotten offline was 43 missions into a P-47 campaign flying on the Eastern Front and 58 missions flying a BF-109 F2 at the start of Barbarossa. The F2 campaign was one of the first i ever statrted, flying full switch, and it was one that i would try and fly at least one mission a week on. Think i kept it going on and off for about six months. With that pop gun 15mm and no incidenaries in the MG 17 it was hard work against I-153s, I-16s and Laggs. Dont think i managed more than 25 or 30 kills in maybe 40-50 aerial combats, so it felt quite realistic.

I always call it quits when i get killed or captured in a campaign. GEt 20 or 30 missions in to a campaign and your really start to care for your little virtual pilot and stop taking as many risks. In one Jug campaign i was grounded for several weeks because of a lack of replacement planes. I was routinely making it home with flak and cannon shell holes all over my bird. MY wing men were in a similar situation, getting home with blown off rudders, smoking engines and ripped of elevators.

I even started caring for some of my better squadmates! Despite the KillStealing and blindness to danger which seems to afflict them occasionally i felt like it was my duty to get them out of trouble.

Online flying tends to suck up most of my time now. I have noticed a serious improvement in my flying offline though. The learning curve online is massive. Combat Darwinism at its finest.

I have been playing Il2 for three years now and the furthest I've ever gotten in an offline campaign is 17 missions. I usually just got tired of them, I would stop playing, and then I would delete them. Maybe a month later I would try to start one again but I never could stick with them.

Maybe its just me, but I find that the online campaigns are the best in the game. I'm not hooking up with anyone, just starting a server, and then playing it single player, with the AI flying all the other planes. It seems as if the missions are simply defined better . . .

like ,there is some other goal than:"Escort the bombers for 5 gazillion miles, then die after hitting time skip 18 times and unskipping with 12 enemy aces on your 6. Good Luck!".

Or "There are 5,000 bombers incoming from the SE! There may also be fighters numbering in the millions coming from the North! Get up there, and just try to down one before you have to bail! Good Luck!"

Wow, some good stuff all,
You guys got more patience than me. I admit, it $uks to fly all that way only to be shot down and start all over again http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif Cant come home without my bird tho http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Even if i dont bring her back, i try to bail out over friendly skies. Nothing like the feeling of landing an injured plane that's full of holes after a long hard fight or bombing run. Maybe i'll find my way to hyperlobby someday when i'm ready. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Currently flying a Russian Leningrad fighter campaign offline. It started in summer 41 and now up to spring 43. First plane was an I16, then a P40, and just switched to an La5.

86 missions in so far.

I've played through all the campaigns available in Il-2-FB-AEP, scoring somthing over 600 kills in one of them. Right now I'm doing some testing while waiting for my copy of PF to arrive.... Booring!

I guess it must just be me. I got the "No Map Found" bug after 77 missions in the IL-2 campaign that starts off flying the I-153. Then I started the Leningrad IL-2 campaign where it starts flying against Finland and got 66 missions before "No Map Found". I tried a Mig-3 campaign and got only 6 before "No Map Found".

I have 6 different campaigns going right now. So far so good. Someone once suggested that the "No Map Found" was DGEN's way of telling you your campaign failed. I thought it might have to do with a corrupted file, but my computer is completely clean.

Any thoughts?

NoMapFound-error occured a couple of times for me too. Darn irritating, as it occurs in Berlin map, which is usually the last map in a long campaing. My computer usually gives a beep, then a secong beep, and the map is gone. I think I'll simply reboot the PC after the first beep, the next time it occurs.
Any other bright ideas?

No way I can remember how many missions I`ve done in one campaign, anything from 50 - 100 ish. Campaigns can become very good and you do feel a bit for your AI brothers, even if they don`t last long. There was one AI Wingman who I noticed was still alive after 3 missions, so I made an effort to keep him alive. He lasted for around 20 missions before he was shot down and only because he got separated and was hunted by 4 AI 109. I was way too far to help him and all I could hear was `Somebody get him off me!` `Bogey on my six`. he lasted quite a while before they got him.

As for Online Campaigns, well they will ALWAYS be better than OFFLINE, simply becuase it`s a great thrill to fight with and against Humans. ANY GAME is better with 2 Humans playing, AI can NEVER compete against that.

Of course, AI sometimes is preferable if you come across Humans who do nothing but waste time insulting eachother or whining or team killing.

I must admit a bit surprised by my fellow offliners.

I have played both Russian fighter campaigns 2-3 times each. Most of my campaigns I run VeryShort (+- 25 missions) or Short (+- 50 missions). Kinda prefer the latter since I like them there shinny medals. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I have always found the Russian fighter campaigns lots of fun, especially after I realised one could customize the plane selection. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif My present campaign consists of I-16, Mig-3, La-5 and I'll finish with the Yak-3. That, and a shorter flight distance, and the campaigning is lots of fun.
