Hi all.

This (http://www.pacific-fighters.com/de/home.php)
was made public in the german forums from official side and I thought its worth sitting down and translating it:

Q: Wich countrys and areas will be included in Manchuria and '46?

A: Only few new ones. For 46 we have the Kiev region (USSR) wich you can use as a backdrop for other action aswell.
Manchuria will utilize 2 maps; Manchuria (China) itself and a special map named
Nomonhan /Khalhin-Gol (Mongolia).
This one was created for both conflicts between Russia and Japan and because we added a lot of japanese planes.
It's a bonus online map, so to speak.

Anyway, both addons have a lot more action going on in the campaigns and the single missions.
The missions will use both the new and old maps.

Q: Will the 46 expansion contain global improvements for the simulation (as it happened with Pacific Fighters) wich will affect not only the new areas but also the early stuff of the russian front or early war in general?

A: There are some changes in the code. Most important is that we redid the code for joystick input; now it feels even a bit better in flight then it did all the time.
This took a major piece of time and was tested by real pilots.
You know that a short PC stick can't give you the same sense of controll as a real, longer one found in real planes can.
So we sat down and created a module that makes the difference feel minimal.

Q: In every patch there were improvements not listed in the readme, on wich players stumbled upon. Wich is your favorite new; or wich will not be noticed by players at first?

A: My personal favorite is the new joystick controll. We have a lot of new weapons in 46 as well; we coded a bunch of new things like german wire guided missiles, soviet hybrid engines
(Piston + Turbojet or Piston + Rocket), also we have 3 different kinds of guns and targeting systems on one plane.
One of the targeting systems on the Ar-234 is a backward firing 20mm cannon with telescope for example.

Q: The Lerche for the 46 addons is the most unique addition ever made to FB.
Were there any problems implementing it into the engine?

A: Yes, there's a very interesting story about the moddeling of this aircraft within the team.
Its the only plane capable of vertical take offs and landings; but I think I'll just show you this bit of the readme concerning this.

Heinkel Lerche III

As a basis we used the Heinkel Lerche II.
However, after modeling it we found some glitches in the design and had to make adjustments to make it combat ready.
If we had modeled it after the original specifications; the plane had never left the ground.

In consequence we have made the following adjustments:

- the connecting areas between airframe and diagonal-profile was restrengthed

- more powerfull engines were fitted

- as a basis for the cockpit detail the Hs-132 prototype was used

- oil and water coolers were fitted into the round wings

- to enable the plane stable starting and landing, gas driven automatical stabelizers were fittet to the airframe

- the shape of the gear and tail were modified ( if we had modelled after the original design the aircraft would have fallen over)

-----

There were some other necesarry adjusments on other russian or german aircraft, but they were mostly detail questions about the cockpit or airframe- no comparsion to those we did on the
Lerche

Q: How many new aircrafts can we expect in the new addons?

A: 1. 6 PE-2 variants
2. 8 flyable and 4 KI
3. all 18 flyable.

Thanks HuninMunin! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

ps:
And...what about your Ki61/He100 skins you made for the Germany in Pacific thread? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

Yes Thanks HuninMunin!

Good!

No Kidding.

Extremely bad!!

Translation:

The Fb109 will remain rock stable for gunnery, while planes like the Spitfire, P39, and P51 will continue to behave as though their CoG is placed back at the rudder trim tab.

In between those lines: learn to fly again.

I hope this module can be deactivated, because I have a longer-than-normal stick already, so if the module is optimized to short sticks, I am screwed.

The inputs are filtered to make it feel like it was longer. As the inputs from your longer stick are "filtered" allready, you will rather have an advantage, because you are used to the somewhat slower input.

At least that is how I understood it and why I removed the dust from my lengthened stick. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

We are working on the project, but it takes time because we want it to be the best experience possible within the context and limits FAP sets us.
But if you had something to contribute to the project; I might have something in exchange *cough*PM*cough*

<span class="ev_code_YELLOW">For us single player folks nothing much to look forward to. Its great to have tons of planes & varients, maps, ground objects but the AI remains untouched.

Air battle against bombers doesn't follow the bombers to & from target.

When aircraft get into the "landing pattern" mode nothing gets them out - its a turkey shoot.

No vectoring to target.

Call for help (tab + 7) & you get "clear all the way" BS.

Oleg & company doesn't care one bit for single play. 1,000 new skins and 34 new aircraft does nothing for us.

You seem to have overlooked the endless discussions about the matters you mentioned.
It is not possible to be changed.

Who doesnt care for single play doesn't put 9 campaigns ( hand crafted) into the addon.

I myself do know at least 5 mission designers looking forward to put up great single player missions with the new ground objects.

The addons contain a hell lot for single play to me and I will enjoy them for many hours.

I for one am very interested in the new stick settings. With as touchy as the Saitek X52 is, I realy hope this is the answer. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

<span class="ev_code_YELLOW">Well, okay, I haven't flown IL2 for the last three years so I wasn't around to read the AI discussions . I recently reloaded it plus all of the patches. Low and behold the AI seems to be worse than it was 3 years ago. Why? I'm hoping BoB has superior AI code. That stick improvement thing might be fun.

I'd encourage you to reinstall FB1.0 and give that a try. The AI was as dumb as a post. Its as dumb as a nightlight now but at least its something. The problem with the AI these days is that its just a little TOO good at flying their aircraft to the maximum of capability. That aside...they are far more challenging now than before...also alot of campaign designers (particularly for old campaigns) have set the AI to veteran but now they are much too good there and should be set to normal.

I have not seen nearly as much of the merry go round antics in the middle of air combat where one fighter goes in a wide circle and all the other fighters follow. That seems to have slowly disappeared...its much less of a problem now I find.

Good mission design and proper testing and the AI does what its supposed to. It does what its supposed to too much actually...its definately not very human but its perfectly predictable from a mission designers standpoint. You honestly shouldn't expect a revolution in the AI in any game for a while. Maybe in 25 years we'll have AI that look like humans. In the meantime...they will be quite mechanical and in this game it really shows because its a difficult thing for the AI to "think" (more like react) about flying, shooting, and tactics at the same time.

So I disagree that single player has been left out or that the AI is worse now than before. The AI is definately better (in my opinion)...the experience is different and therefore open to interpretation.

Plus...if you're really looking for a good time on single player. There are a TON of campaigns made by all sorts of mission designers and they are fantastic and entertaining experiences. Try them!

I second what IceFire said. I don't mind that the AI has been made to think and fight better, I just wish it would get hobbled a little so that its max speed and e-bleed is closer to my max speed and e-bleed.

Then again, I get throroughly "owned" on dogfight servers so maybe its my piloting skills that need tweaked. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
