View Full Version : New forum rules?

I'm wondering if anyone has noticed significant difference in forum behavior? There has been some change (Tully as Moderator, sig requirements; maybe more...). We were told new rules would be implemented and clearly stated for all to understand. I'm assuming these are in progress and the forums will be informed relatively soon.

I don't think its been as bad as before (no fanboy arguments, less tolerance for unnecessary whining and the like) but for me there's still some difficulty understanding any real boundaries. In this past couple of weeks I think I've had 3 threads locked, one thread and one post deleted (both of which I was glad to see gone) and I've gotten carried away with a female member.

There's still a real problem with threads initiating legitimate objectives and having one or two jump in intentionally throwing a monkey wrench. Many times someone enters such discussion with some popcorn in hand just to have fun making a mockery. Soon a couple of others end up jumping on the coattails and you can forget it. For some reason (or two or three) its just damned hip in this forum getting off being a hack. It seems this behavior is praised more than ignored and even if some aren't comfortable many of their responses have so many smiley faces how is anyone to get a clear message?

I just don't see much consistency and I even wonder if its just a matter of time before I seriously blow it. My concern is whether the new rules and their enforcement, at least to a significant degree, will be enough. Is there anyone else who has doubts?

I don't think anything has started yet. It just seems everybody for the most part has mellowed out.

As for the popcorn/peaches entering threads. I pretty much started that whole thing in an attempt to water down the flames. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes not.

The Mods should exercise the line-item Veto. Let them just delete or edit posts that attempt to spoil good threads.

And move Thread Hijackers to their own thread about their pet topic.

Well I use smiley faces to make sure that the intent of my message is clear. If there is a wink or a smile then it is not serious.......even with a mad face..... Maybe some of us have just decided to chill out and not be so serious. I would rather write a few more lines to explain a post than to risk having someone taking it out of the spirit in which it was meant and I have no problems apologizing if i step on someones toes unintentionally. The mods have a really hard job to do and that is why I think they should be anonymous...keep thier old sigs and names active but when they are "on the beat" so to speak anonymous, absolute authority. Usually when I clash with a mod I am in the wrong.......only once have I been what I felt as in the right...and it was a while ago.

Maybe the moderators should cut and paste the silly people's posts to a special silly people's forum.

We've already had a Silly People's Forum; it was called the Pilot's Lounge.

Red,

You get lots of fights and flames, or you get boring. Take your pick.

I thought something was wrong with my increasingly buggy Opera. Then I thought no its Ubi's pathetic server. Now I know THE TRUTH! Tully da man (a real man hacker) will set us free. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
