I am thinking of putting together a very simple, little compilation of documentary-type PF movie footage, and would like some help. At this Site (http://pauke.ee.ethz.ch:8732/oberstguncam/Frameset/) , you can view a movie of Pacific Carrier landings by Hellcats and Corsairs...at best, many were truly just semi-controlled crashes, but from which the pilots seem to have emerged alive. Follow the flashing arrow link on the homepage to the "Pacific Carrier Landings" movie.

I want to make a PF movie which will Simulate that documentary clip, showing similarly "hairy" PF carrier landings/crashes. I've made a few myself, but would like to get those by others. If you think you are going to have a Difficult landing, and you start a Quick Recording(*.ntrk file), I would appreciate your sending the Ntrk file to me. My plan is to run them, screencapture AVI movie versions, process them, etc, and compile a little five minute WMV movie...

Here is one of my own, a damaged HellCat attempt(flown by me)which had little likelihood of success. Damaged Hellcat in a Storm (http://members.cox.net/wasaf2004/CarrierStormDamaged.WMV)

Please EMail any such *.Ntrk files to me at fliegeroffizier@cox.net

Thanks

That is great movie about carrier op you have there! Thank you!
After watching the movie I have two main concerns:
1. F4U and F6F stopped within some 10-20 m after catching the wire (distance in PF is some two times bigger!). The f4U does not bounce on the deck like "ours" in PF as well.
2. F4U actully take-off the deck, I mean BEFORE the end of the deck. I am able to do it only with 25% of fuel in empty A/C, otherwise have to drop (or at least stay in the deck level) to gain some speed
3. Even crash landing stopped much much sooner (distance of "belly landing" on the deck) comparing with what we have in PF

Concidering that most of these landing distances of F4F, F2A and SBD (JIN planes can almost land verticaly and stop after 5 meters http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )are much shorter than bigger fighters, maybe F4U and F6F are overal a bit TOO HEAVY modelled in the PF, thus all these problems with acceleration, landing etc.

I have quite a few landing trks so how to send them to you?

Did you see how quick those Corsairs accelerated and how easily that took off. Their definitely overmodeled. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Not very impressive from a damage point of view but if you're interested here's a Seafire landing on a moving carrier from quite some way out. With no engine.

Track (http://www.alliedwingedlegion.com/members/spinner/engineout.ntrk)

PS. I'm at work so can't actually view it and the link is from memory. I can't imagine I've uploaded any other tracks called "engineout" but if it's not a carrier one I do apologise http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

How do you start a Quick Recording while in a game, I've never bothered recording tracks because as many times as I get into interesting situations (like knowing I'm about to die) I would fill my HD. But now I have an extra 200 GB so I'm ready. But no worry, I still fly as badly as before.

I'm not sure if Quick Track is bound to a key by default. On my setup it's Shift-T to start/stop recording.

In 'Controls' in the 'MISC' section, just before 'TIME COMPRESSION' you will find "Quick Start/Save Track". Bind a key or HOTAS button to this and you can start and stop recording on the fly.

Ntrk files shouldn't be very large, and can be sent as EMail attachments. I don't need a Whole complete Track(*.TRK) of an Entire mission which ultimately includes a "hard" landing at the very end... I'd Much prefer a Quick recording (*.ntrk) which you would begin when you are on final approach...such a *.ntrk file would probably be less than 1 Mb..easy to attach to EMail.

For anyone unfamiliar with Quick Recordings, you assign a toggle key for it in controls. Then, you toggle the Recordings on and off thruout a mission. You can Record a Hundred separate *.ntrk files/recordings in a single mission if you want. I have my toggle set to a button on my Joystick(an 18 button stick) so I start-stop these recordings almost without thinking as the action develops, almost as instinctively as the near constant adjustment of Trim with my thumb on the tophat(one of two TH's on my stick)...

EMail address, again, is Doolittle80@cox.net

J_Weaver. I think he was just flying the previous patch when he captured that .ntrk.
LOL
