yeah unchecking
http://www.netwings.org/dcforum/User_files/41aa871c750c1284.jpg
this one is for me essential even for my nice 3GHz rig with 6800 GT card. I have a MB soundcard and if I don't uncheck this I get strange echoes. I guess there are other resons to uncheck it as it seems.

I've had to do that since way back in pre-AEP days.

Never saw the tip. Been around a bit ya know. We have a help area and a FAQ area but for the most part, with the exception of hunter's thread, they do not give any useful tweaks. Mayhaps a sticky containing individuals rigs, their settings and results would be appropriate. This little trick really did give me an FPS boost.

Mods, what do you think? Can we get a thread sticky started?

Another tip that used to be quite helpful was to reduce 'Sound Acceleration' (from Windows, DXdiag.exe or control panel). It hasn't been necessary (nor the 'extensions-off' trick) for quite some time, however I may give it another go to see if it makes a difference.

Well like I said on the other board I get lows of 28, highs of 120+, and average of 45 on the pacific map with the sky loaded. My system is as follows:

Asus P4t533C mobo with Northbridge 850E chipset
3.06 CPU
Award Bios revision 1010
RDRam 800 x 1mb
Sound blaster live
Medusa Ti-4680P turbo 128 vid (a pumped up 4200)

I run 1024x768, DX mode, Excellent settings.

Anyone with similar rigs can get in touch with me to share tips/tricks.

If you suffer lock ups when going head on with other planes or shooting ground targets at close range, the trick that helped me along time ago in the original IL-2 was to go to Run/dxdiag and run it. Then open your sound tab and reduce your sound exceleration from full to standard, it will amaze you at how well it runs, you can even turn your extensions back on in the Start/Ubi/set up/FB+AEP+PF set up.

No wonder you guys hate the sound....sound extensions, when running properly, on a properly configured sound card, gives this game very powerful sound.

Yes the sound is amazing. I had issues with the yankee planes cannons smasihng my speakers but it was fixed long ago.

One of the best things about FB/AEP/PF is the sound. Very immersive.

I'm full bore here (44100, full sound (slowest) and that box is checked).

And that's the problem. The SB 5.1 Live simply cannot run it properly... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Only game I own that it crackles on. Just not willing to get a new one yet http://www.geocities.com/mompeepers/willyvic/shrug.gif

okay, okay, I'll admit I'm clueless sometimes with computers, but...

where exactly can you find this set up box to check on the enhancement?

Thought it would be in control panel under sound devices, but can't dig it up...

Thanks as always - and feel free to throw in an insult if it is somewhere simple sitting right in front of me... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You need to run the setup program from the directory you have the install in. It will be named pfsetup.exe or il2setup.exe depending on which install you have.

hope this helps,

FYI,

I had the audigy card, and it was nothing but problems in various games. I just use the AC97 onoboard sound with NO issues (I also returned the card).

I just checked with FRAPS, and no difference with having the audio enhancement checkbox checked or not (no enhancements on AC97?), but then again, I'm not having any problems to start with.

Audigy2 here, all working just fine and when I uncheck the box I have very very weak sound.

In the past I used nearly all the SB cards from the SB 8 Bit to the Audigy2 and never had any problems with them.

I'm shocked! With my AC97 I had absolutley dreadful sound but it's all fine nwo with my Audigy.

Wierd isn't it how same hardwar can give such wildly differing results?!?

try checking enhancements they dont cause the echo anymore like they use to.

I tried unchecking that box, and while PF did appear faster I was getting a `bopping` or clicking in the sound. Then when I changed the sound quality the sound vanished altogether, so had to restart.

Looks like I`m staying with what i`ve already got. I guess Skychimp`s problem is probably due to his specific system and that`s why it works for him.
