I was kind of interested to see how the movie would have turned out. Since there have been no teaser trailers for the film, if it doesn't get made...I won't be as disappointed.

Though after reading the following article from Gamespot. It sounds like they're still trying to find someone else, to make the film...

A quote from a friend, "I wouldn't worry too much about the news coming out about Fox and Universal pulling out of HALO. In the end, I feel like this might be better for the film. I have a feeling we might see Dreamworks and Paramount (which is now bascially the same place) step up to bat on this one, and we'll still see Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp's HALO in 2008. That's exactly what my reaction was. This doesn't mean the movie won't be made. Actually, it's quite common for studios to back out of expensive film projects.

This movie WILL happen, and it will probably be the best videogame adaptation yet. The reason that most of these movies have sucked is because nobody has really bothered to put that much effort into them.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

In the latest Bungie Weekly Update, Frank O'Connor has provided an official statement on the recent news that both 20th Century FOX and Universal were dropping from the Halo movie project.

Well, there???s lots of stuff going on behind the scenes that we simply can???t talk about, but Microsoft???s official statement on the matter goes something like this:

???We are disappointed that Universal and Fox wanted to significantly renegotiate the financial points of the deal. But the Halo franchise is hugely popular and our goal remains the same - to find a partner that shares our passion and will creatively collaborate with us to best represent the story and spirit of the Halo franchise. Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and the rest of the creative team are dedicated to ensuring the Halo movie becomes a reality. We are already in discussions with potential partners who recognize the value of the Halo brand and its appeal to consumers worldwide.???

The reality here at Bungie towers is a feeling of optimism, satisfaction and happiness for reasons we can???t go into. Frankly we???re interested in making the best movie, and it???s possible that a partner who???s more concerned with numbers, might not be the best partner for what???s more vitally a creative process. Suffice it to say that Peter, Neill, Fran and Microsoft are as excited and dedicated as ever and WETA continues the pre-production process. Actually, when you do finally get to see the stuff WETA has already made, you will probably pee a little.

I wish this was Bnet???s story to reveal to you, but it has lots more to do with what Microsoft biz guys and the powerful and influential Mr. Jackson are up to, than with yours truly. Hopefully however, we can share excellent news with you in the next few weeks. <div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Just heard it from someone who heard it from the top. The Halo movie is dead. For now. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

So you heard it from someone who heard it from someone, eh? Is this one of those "my cousin's best friend's uncle's fishing buddy's neighbor is a janitor at so-and-so studios, and overheard a conversation in the elevator" type thing?

The movie is not dead. It is simply being shopped around to various studios. This process is NORMAL in Hollywood. Sheesh.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

zomgosh, i love pete jackson! Dead Alive, anyone? If anyone can pull this movie off its Jackson but I think they may have a hard time matching the awesomeness of the books which I thought were...awesome. Theres so much plot that the general public doesn't know because they don't read so it will be hard to incorporate everything and not be repetitive. But if they pull it off, of course, it will be amazing.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Halo Officially Halted by Jackson and Microsoft

Posted Oct 31st 2006 8:30AM by Chris Ullrich

As Kevin previously reported, both Universal Studios and 20th Century Fox recently pulled out of their commitment to co-finance the big-screen adaptation of the hugely popular Halo video game, citing concerns over a rising budget and novice director Neil Boekamp. Even though both studios dropped out, Halo developer Microsoft and Executive Producer Peter Jackson, through a statement made by his agent, expressed optimism that the film would eventually find new backers and still be made. Because of this, pre-production work on the film would continue until those backers were secured and the film could move forward with its new financing.

Apparently, their patience with the "looking for new backers" process was short-lived because according to a joint statement made today by Peter Jackson's Wingnut Films and Microsoft, pre-production on Halo is being officially and immediately halted. According to the statement:

"As was previously confirmed, we deeply regret that both Universal and Fox did not choose to move forward with financing the Halo film under the original terms of the agreement. At this time Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, along with their partner, Microsoft, have mutually agreed to postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video game universe until we can fulfill the promise we made to millions of Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first class film to the big screen. We are fully supportive of Director Neill Blomkamp's vision of the film. Neill is a tremendously gifted filmmaker and his preliminary work on Halo is truly awe-inspiring. While it will undoubtedly take a little longer for Halo to reach the big screen, we are confident that the final feature film will be well worth the wait."

That's a nice thought and I'm glad they're so confident. But now that two studios have pulled out and production has been officially halted, it seems like it will take even more effort to get things going again -- even if they do eventually secure financing. I trust Peter Jackson and if he says the Halo movie will eventually happen, then I guess it might.

Still, with all the trouble the Halo movie has had before it ever really got going, maybe its time to put the project to rest for good. After all, movies adapted from video games seldom perform very well at the box office (or in the minds of critics) and more than likely Halo would face the same fate. Like it or not, its hard to live up to so much hype; as much as fans might want the movie to happen, it would still be a huge gamble for any backer choosing to finance the film at this point. Besides, sometimes it's just better to cut your losses and move on.

What say you? Should the Halo movie live or die?

meh, I didn't think it would be any good anyway.http://www.cinematical.com/2006/10/31/halo-officially-h...ckson-and-microsoft/ (http://www.cinematical.com/2006/10/31/halo-officially-halted-by-jackson-and-microsoft/)<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Edit: I did see just now that Arc14716 did have some into on this sorry all lol. Reading obviously isn't my strong suit. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I appologize if this has been posted in another thread but hey no such thing as too much information right.

I found out at like 4:00 mst today that GameStop will start taking Halo 3 reserves on all three versions starting tomorrow. Do you have any idea how hard it was to know that and not have anyone to tell, lol

Whats weird is theres no price point, and no idea whats in the three different versions, but this is what it'll be if you want to reserve it.

Regular Edition is $5 down
Collectors Edition is $10 down
Legendary Edition is $25 down

"and what ever you put down comes off the price of the game" so on and so forth

I'll probably be getting th Legenday just because well its Halo and well....I don't know what else to say.
