In my continuing effort to point out news stories concerning U.S. aircraft carriers, here's the latest I've found:

They haven't announced a schedule yet, but it looks like the refurbishment will be fairly extensive when it takes place. If you want to see her, I'd go soon. She's going to be out of commission for 18 months to a year.

at least they're taking care of her. It's sad what happened to the USS Cowpens, the last independance class CVL...just rotted till they decided to scrap her, last I heard.

Oops. I should have said eighteen months to two years. Hey, it was early, and I wasn't fully awake yet.

That's a long time to be out of commission, so to speak. But after all, she's going all the way to New Jersey for the refit (you can see New Jersey from her fantail at her current berth.)
