It is Nov 1942 and I am flying a Yak1b at Stalingrad for the VVS.

My mission was to intercept two 109s and some Stukas.

I climbed up, up and intercepted the Stukas but as I was about to attack, they started in their attack dive.

I dove after them and shot one.
He started smoking heavily and a wing came off.
I kept diving after his wingman and as I passed the first one I noticed his dive siren still working. Cool!

I ended up diving through the middle of this squadron of Stukas and was serenaded by dive sirens from all different angles.

It sounded so cool.

Anyway, I know the sound ain't perfect in this game but man that was the coolest sounds I have heard yet in IL2 or FB. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

When watching STUKA's (with outside view, mind you /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ) I always turn up the volume a bit. Often resulting in a mad mother /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Boy, does the STUKA sound beautifull.

shall be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be
measured to you again.

Whats funny is you can be sitting still on the runway and turn on the dive brake and the sirens will scream. You get the same tone no matter what the speed is. I wish it would get higher pitched as your speed increased.

How many boards could the Mongols hoard if the Mongol Horde got bored?

I swear the pitch changed on the AI stuka sirens as our speed increased in the dive.

Am I on crack? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Another cool thing i just noticed the other night...while not a sound...or even dealing with the stuka, was on the P-47 when you have the bazooka tube mounted, if you get the angle right you can see down them, and see wether or not you've fired them. how cool is that, instead of a crappy blocked off end you can see all the way down and see the waiting round...god i love this game

Hey, have I already told you that the Stuka is a real I-153 Killer. I once took a Ju-87B for a spin online, when that I-153 popped up behind me. Usually you'd think, okay that's it for me. What I did though was extend my flaps fully and activate the air brakes with the sirens. I had to be careful with my eavasive maneuvering. Well, thing is the I-153 jock was done over by my rear gunner, did not hit me, and went down and all to the sound of the siren. Ah well, that's what you get should you think of the Stuka as an easy target. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif

I found this site ( http://www.allwoodwings.com/3-WWI+WWII/Junkers,Ju87-D,Stuka,Luftwaffe.htm) which seems to confirm my suspicion that the sound is actually sirens and not caused by airflow:
"The characteristic scream came from sirens attached to the undercarriage struts as well as whistles that were fixed to the bombs"
So it seems quite normal for the scream to be heard while stationary.

Every time i switch views to like F2 or F3, my cockpit sound is gone, so i have to goto settings, sounds, apply, for it to come back, HOW LAME IS THAT!

I love the sound of defensive gunners on planes when u go by them, they become quieter and change pitch...awesome.

Same here, Jenikov. But sure that's one of em things being corrected in the patch.

Being an allied footsoldier that stuka sound was everything but cool. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Unfortunately the sirens are driven by the small propellers on the landing struts. It's not realistic that they sound whilst stationary (unless you're facing into a stiff wind /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ). But I hardly think it necessary for Oleg to spend the time fixing this.

actually the hint posted here a few days ago (once mission loads hit escape go to sound options panel then hit apply without doing anything) worked for me - can have extensions on and sound is 100% better

you dont hear dive sirens on stukas unless in one with airbrakes enabled, it was the joint you were smoking

As the only dedicated stizuka pilot in this thread, I feel it's my duty to chime in here. Yes, the dive scream does sound the same no matter what pitch, angle, or velocity you are at, even if you are parked. and there is nothing like that sound while rolling in on a target! for me, the dive hasn't even begun yet until my bird is screaming! A funny part of the sound bug is even when you get both gearstruts blown off, [that's where the little props are located] you still can get the siren! On that note, the stuka in the game handles WORSE and slows the a/c down when you lose your struts. You would think that it would be the other way around. I still love this bird though! I will be in the HL tonight around midnight pst if yall want some target practice. ~S~

Um, why would the sound change on the siren in the cockpit?

The siren props only go so fast, no matter how fast you're travelling....it's in the way they're made.

The doppler sound you're looking for is caused by the sound waves being compressed by the forward motion, and is only noticable if you're not travelling at the same speed as the siren.

Turn your dive brakes on and then press F3 (fly-by), and you'll get the pitch change you're looking for.

The dive siren DOES increase in pitch at higher speeds, it's one pitch higher and then makes a bunch of strange beeps and grungles /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
