Hello
I just bought PF this week after playing the IL2 demo all weekend, I love it but have a lot of questions for you guys.
Starting with water shaders, I have a 3g processor, 2g of ram and an Albatron PC6800GT, I am getting about 60 fps with everything on full quality so I would like to take advantage of some more eyecany features. I have tried water=1 water=2 and water=3 and I'm not seeing any difference. I cant see any reflections at all. I have seen some stunning screenshots of ships and planes reflecting in wavy water but mine looks nothing like it.
Sorry if this has been asked a million times I have tried searching to no avail.
Any suggestions?

cheers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Set landscape detail to perfect and make sure you're playing in OpenGL.

Sure sounds like directX.
Do you have HardwareShaders = 1
enabled in config.ini?

I haven't checked that one, I will check when I get home tonight.
The only thing I have changed in the config is the water settings, I selected open GL in the hardware setup menu. What does "HardwareShaders = 1" do?

It enables perfect settings.

So does that mean if you have all the eyecandy options on full in the game they don't all work unless you have HardwareShaders set to 1?

I believe it should already be set, but you have to make sure it is enabled in the [Render_OpenGl] section of config.ini.
If it has become disabled for any reason ( HardwareShaders = 0) perfect will not work.
Also, you may get more help/suggestions if you move this to the Community Help Forum. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

make sure stencil buffering is enabled in your hardware setup as well otherwise even if its set to opengl you wont be able to select perfect mode

Did you say IL-2 Demo?

There is no shader water in the IL-2 demo...the IL-2 demo came out a few years before pixel shaders were popular in game engines.

The best you can do is everything set to High or Excellent.

To avoid confusion...

OpenGL drivers are installed with your video card drivers. If there are any updates to OpenGL, they will be included with new video drivers, unlike DirectX, which is a separate download provided by Microsoft.

The link above is for a new game .dll with updated code, not OpenGL drivers.

yeah, thanks for the clarification. That little option changed the whole playing experience! I've been flying around Hawaii for an hour now just for sightseeing and experimenting with the new lightning effects etc. Thank you! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Sehm, the screenshots are saved in the root folder of the install (merged or stand alone) as TGA Files.

And Aimail101, it looks fantastic, its really amazing with all the options cranked up... i will post more pics later on in the screenshot thread http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Hey tonedog2005- I also have the ATI 9600Pro. Be sure to update your Catalyst drivers from the ATI website, especially the one released December 21st. That version totally unleased the power of 256mb on the card. What's different about this newer driver is that it lets the app' decide on filtering, anti-aliasing, etc. which seemed to take a lot of the guesswork as to what settings to use. Makes water look really 'watery,' but there is one drawback that I am working on: taking a screenshot results in getting an image with a different colour range. But heck- the game looks FAN-TASTIC! Much better than the older stable drivers I had been using!

Welcome!
