What would be the absolute BEST CRT Monitor in terms of clarity and color. Which one is the undisputed KING?

Iiyama made some of the best CRT monitors around. They've moved over to LCD, but good examples can still be found all over eBay.

I'm still using a 19" Vision Master about eight years-old, at an un-forced 1280x960x32bit @ 100Mhz refresh rate. It's as clean and bright as it always was (and still has a hefty margin for brightening). I'll hold on until it fails I think.

Iiyama's new LCD range is cool though. A 2 millisecond response time? Wow!

TFT gives much better image quality in general and the refresh time nowadays is fast enough. Plus it is alot easier to move if you go to LAN parties once in a while. CRT monitors also emits rather harmfull radiation and it can make your eyes hurt after a while.

I'm really curious? Why do you want a CRT monitor?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

My ViewSonic G90f is both brighter and faster in refresh rate than any flat panel I have ever seen.

Flat panels are good for business apps and the checkout lane at the grocery store, but IMHO CRTs still hold a very visible edge for gaming.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

CRTs IMO still reign supreme for gaming.

I too have a Viewsonic G90fb and find other than perhaps another CRT no LCDs can match it.

Im waiting for the new SED monitors to start appearing in the next year or 2. Keeping the graphical edge and refresh rates of CRTs yet being thin and light similar to an LCD a perfect compromise.

My dad bought one of the 17" Vision Masters about eight years back, but it faded out and was useless after a year or so. Iiyama, to their credit, did send a new one over. I got that one, but it only lasted three years after that. It was a shame, too, because the picture quality and range were incredible on those monitors. I think both of them might have been refurbs, actually, which goes some way to explaining the short lifespan.

My current cheapo AOC monitor only goes to 1280x1024@60Hz, but it actually has pretty damn impressive picture quality. I hear the expensive AOC monitors are very good, indeed.

The 21'' Sony GDM F520 Trinitron that I use, is a pretty good candidate

Ok I am hoping the with all the innovations and with many going to flat panel monitors that the price on the BEST CRTs will drop and I could pick one up for many $ less than what they used to be.

From what I gather the CRT still gives the best quality picture for games.

I seen you guys talking about a game involving nukes and I forgot what it was. I would like to know what it was called. Btw I know this is random and out of nowhere, but lets just say it started with me watching nuclear explosions on youtube and an Area-51 website. Thanks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

It's a pretty neat little game, there's tactics and strategy to it, which fleets where, what composition, radar coverage, silo placement, airbase placement. Do I launch my fighters yet, SLBMs, first or last? If I shoot my ICBMs I've no SAM coverage for that area and might get spanked and so on, all against the clock.

It's alot more cerebral than most games out there, granted it's visuals are basic but then it's imitating 'War Games.'<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Is the one that's quite good and dirt cheap.

Don't buy a new one at the moment get a second hand one.

Everyone is out buying these new flatscreens so what happens to the CRTs - second hand sales.

I bought a mint condition IIyama 19 inch for 12 Euros a couple of months ago - and could have bought a second one for 10 Euros but couldn't be bothered to carry it home.

I've now got 2 IIyama 19" screens at home - they're bright and sharp. At work I use a 20"Trinitron - very nice but quite honestlty I'm not sure if I could tell the difference unless I put them all side by side.

Look out in the Car boot sales, garage sales brocantes and stuff like that - people just want to get shot of them cos they take up space.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I think the 19" Vision Masters had something special http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I persuaded my wingie to buy the 22" CRT from Iiyama - he's very happy with it. Partly I think it's the refresh rates these monitors can hold that sets them up there for me, especially if you want to keep Vsynch enabled.

I'm running a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070SB 21" (20" viewable) CRT, that I bought new in April 2004.

I understand that it uses the same tube as the Sony equivalent. There was also a 19" model from the same manufacturer.

I say 'was', because I don't think they are being made any more, so if you want one it's likely that It'll have to be second-hand.

Mine appears to be performing every bit as good as when it was new. Though I'm a long way from having checked all the CRT's and LCD/TFT's that are out there, I've checked out a good number of both and have yet to see anything that really betters my monitor (though a few have equalled it), for overall picture quality in 3D gaming.

I'll be hanging on to it for at least another three years, or until it dies, whichever comes first but as yet there's no sign of the latter happening.
