Hi all

I was wondering if anyone is having combat success with the Beaufighter? In real life, it did achieve good victories against more manoueverable aircraft. What are your strategies for air-to-air combat with the Beaufighter?

Because I haven't had much success with it!

Fly it fast on the deck and try not to let anyone get behind ya, lol

Its not really a fighter. I think it was used as a night fighter.

Basically, if you use the Beaufighter in self defense against fighters only. And even then, thats when you can't outrun them.

Since the Beaufighter develops its best speeds at very low altitudes its best to stay down and fast. Strike your targets, and if an unsuspecting fighter passes infront of you...make sure you disintegrate it with your 20mms.

So - you don't use it against fighters?

I remember when i outurned a La-7 on the deck, he was so pissed, kept calling me a cheater,

the trick is to stay slow and turn.
almoast like a 2-engined zero of sorts.

the bad visibility is a challenge, but as soon as you get used to it, It`s not to bad. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It's a MONSTER! I fly it absolutely relentlessly. I got into a 3 v1 against 2 i185s and a ki84 - the thing will stay with a slow turn for a long long time, stands on it's tail very nicely and anything passing in front of it is history. Most a/c will twitch out trying to turn with it slow. I've had some wonderful fights in this little beauty - of course do the E thing if you can - but use flaps and trim and PLAN AHEAD and you can often dominate in turn fights as well - which is really strange. It is really all about timing and getting the other guy in front of those guns for even a split second. I've done numerous fights against multiple opponents in Ki84s and such with generally positive outcomes. It is pretty rough on servers with externals turned off however - due to lack of rear vis.

Overall it's one plane where really pulling out the stops seems to pay off.

Good! I'll get more time in it then!

Thanks for the advice.

I did it once, and looked as boring as you. But now I'm cured, thanks. Go on fighting! Dullness has a cure! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And get that Beaufighter. You'll feel better... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The Beaufighter is a beaut. It is an excellent BnZer, and can turnfight. The trick is, use everything. I saw a doco once of a Beau pilot in the Pacific, when attacking airfields he would put out full flaps, gear down, throttle zero. I use it like that, and it's brilliant http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Aaaand I got an awesome skin for it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The lack of rear view / protection is the big handicap; pity you can't use 'C' to switch cockpits just for the rear look. Best way around that problem is to fly with a wingman or in a group. Fly in 'battle' (side-by-side) not trail, so you can watch each other's 6. If one gets threatened the other should be able to come across and blow away most fighters well before they can bring down a Beaufighter.

As it's a strike-fighter the best thing is to fly fast and low, get in, hit hard and get out quick. Do it in a group, as above, for mutual protection , try to have the odd friendly single seater around for good measure and you've got a tough and hard-hitting unit.

beaufighter can beat other fighters i got 4 air to air kills in one flight once mostly 109s and 190s. A 190 even stalled and crashed following me down low once http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

beu just lacks lots of cannon ammo (has 120 ingame, real ones had 200,240,283)
armoured glass for the pilot
rear seat and optional gun (303)
2nd stage on the supercharger, maybe

fly it aggressivly and in a team if possible, and yes at low alt

Just an interesting detail, british nighfightersquad tested a caputured 110 vs their Beaufighters in Africa.
Beau was faster at the deck, but high up the 110 was the faster one, and the 110 outturnd the Beaufighter at all altitudes.
