View Full Version : They Fly, they Land, they Disappear !

One of the pleasures I used to get from this game was seeing how many of my comrades made it safely back to base. Since FB this is no longer possible. I know that others have landed before me because I hear them on the radio, but when I land they have either already been removed from the game or they disappear before my very eyes as I park up next to them. From the moment they touch down they have just one minute remaining in the game. This is very disappointing. In the game, as in real life missions, it was always of immense concern to all on how many made it back. They were counted out and counted back ! Lets forget new aircraft and other wish lists for the time being. Lets concentrate on getting right what we already have. Time must be found to fix this.

Ever thought about the possibility that they are removed so they cant be destroyed by whatever might hit them after landing?

Man, there are way more serious issues to be fixed, but thx for your concern.

It might be a nice option for the user to select: "AI Planes Persist After Landing".

In QMB, I like to follow the AI back to their base and strafe them if I have any ammo left. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

... and they explode!

I think that one is an immersion killer actually.
I mean the planes disappearing, let alone exploding on their own.
In L'vov map, it happens to each and every plane parking at the farest spot of a base: when it's supposed to disappear, it explodes instead, compromising roster and mission's statistics of course.
The disappearing planes (thing that I hate), was a short-cut to avoid collisions that used to happen pretty often while taxing, especially among big planes.
A case where the cure is (much) worse than the illness...

I know. I used to look forward to landing and seeing my comrades return and to see how many make it back. Its a shame but I think its intentional to save frame rates....

Yes this is an immersion killer, didn't like them taking it out either. Please make this an option. Offliners need this!

I do not know how complex would be the correction of this feature but I do miss the post flight look at my squad mates. With the current dissappearing feature, however, one does get credit for a kill when that aircraft which landed without exploding vanishes. All in all I would rather have them linger. Perhaps have only those aircraft which have been forced down dissappear. But, again, I am in no way a programmer and I assume that FB is the most complex program about (but I could be wrong).

This was a fix in ver 1.11. The reason, IIRC, was to solve the problems of your comrades from taxing in to you and killing you, thus causing the misssion to fail./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I too enjoyed taxing up to and parking next to one of my filght. Once I tried to park a couple of spaces down from my flight leader, I was #4, and waited for the others to taxi in and park. Big mistake. The only way to void the problem was to be the very last to land, not good when you're all shot to pieces.

Revert to v1.0 and check it out.
