Last year I picked up this DVD, and another in the series about the Hellcat, from Chapter's Books here in Ottawa.

Great plane. Did you notice how easy it came off the concrete in a 3 wheel attitude at start? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Sadly on many of those a/c vids the engine roaring is underlayed by some sh*tt* backround music. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Always good to see ww2 crates in air.

Great vid. There's a few others in the "favourite" section on that youtube page where the pilot describes some features http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nWjZA2YFks8&feature=related . Interesting that the gun/cannon firing control (lever) is on the throttle (left side of the cp).

ALSO

Add this

&fmt=18

to the url in the address bar then hit enter and re-watch the movie.

What happens is you will get close to the original quality of the movie, not the FLV version of the upload.

It really enhances the quality.

wow, thanks for the link! seems like a DVD worth getting! I was surprised when he said almost every part if authentic, even the Sakai engine which sounds wonderful!

Yup, and did you notice there is a very good view over the nose while taxiing?

I was surprised at the engine ( exhaust ) sound. Not at all deep powerful and throaty, but very staccato and blatty. The M5's and up used separate exhaust stacks for each cylinder, and you can really tell this.

My impression is that the forward-looking camera was mounted to the framing which runs along the top of the front windscreen. In other words, just above and perhaps even a bit forward of the gun sight's location. From this rather high and forward vantage point (if this is the case), the view must be better than that from the pilot's seat. Now, with the canopy open and seat raised, perhaps the pilot's view is equal or perhaps even better?

The engine should sound like a P&W R-1830.
Because that is exactly what it is.

If this is the Zero from Chino california, then it has the original Sakae engine http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

the pilot even says it in the video

That is in fact Chino's A6M.

Original Mitsubishi Sakai engine of 1705 cubic inches.
