I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the P-38 becomes available at a later date in the USAAF campaigns. I was looking to start a camp w/ the 38, but you can only start in either a P-40 or P-51 under the USAAF. Thanks for any info in advance.

The only USAAF campaigns for the P-51, P-47 or the P-38 I have found all start in 1945 and are all airstart!! This effectively eliminates all three aircraft for me as far as the PTO is concerned.
If I can't takeoff, fly the mission and then fly home and land, the immersion is totally ruined for me. I'm actually thinking about hacking the Dgen files and flying them as Marine aircraft. Not very realistic but at least I could fly them in the PTO. I simply refuse to do the 'airstart' thing. I'll just pretend I'm in the Army and not the Marines.

yes, realy weird http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
the maps are VERY navy based . there is no map where a P-38J/L , P-47D , P-51D can start and fight on http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

For any non-CV aircraft you have airstart, or defense missions only since aside from a few months on the eastern NG map, there are no maps with airfields held by both sides.

I added USAAF campaign for Quadalcanal.
You open the DGen Folder in PF folder, find the
campaignsUSP file open it and ad the following
under the New Guinea entry. Guadal2 Guadalcanal,
October 1942.Then find the planesUSP file and
insert between NewGuinea and Japan1 plane lists the plane list for QUADALCANAL.It should
look like this.
[Guadal2]
P_40E
P_38J
P_39D1
P_39D2
P_47D22

Thanks for the tip Gbollin, I did the things you stated, then I started the Camp and found myself flying the P-40. Will the P-38 come later in the camp? Thanks. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Just click on the p40 and a plane menu will drop down. The p-38 is there.

The reason why we don't really have any P-38 campaigns is because we don't have any maps where they were commonplace. We don't have the Slot, Rabaul or the Phillipines yet.

And thank you Gbollin, I'm a bit green at this as you can tell. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

I have found one problem with putting the P-38 in this campaign...the first mission of this campaign, the P-38 cannot take off from the position that it is placed on the runway. I have tried to go furhter back on the runway, but still cannot gain enough speed to get this bird up. I've tried flaps up & down, radiator open & closed. So, I guess it is a curse or something. Oh well, thanks for the info guys, going to have to use the P-39 after all. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I am Flying Full real. My first mission is Scramble to intercept Raid.P38 has default loadout. I set Take off flaps. When the plane in front of me rools out I stand on the brake
and got full power. Then I release the brakes
when the engines reach full revs. I get off
the ground well before the end of the field.

Not entirely true. P-47D's of the 318th FG participated in the Marianas campaign. They were ferried in to a captured airfield by carrier a few days into the campaign, and had to operate under some pretty brutal conditions. The FG's personnel actually had to defend their base against Japanese infantry, and faced constant ground fire from take-off to landing.

Same group and others helped defend Okinawa against kamikazes following the invasion, in addition to flying incursions (many at night) over Southern Japan. Mostly P-47Ns at that point.

So there are few possibilities for non-airstart missions/campaigns. Pretty slim pickins'.

Guadacanal all the way to Rabaul was considered the "Slot" - that includes Bougainville.
