Hi,

Unfortunately (not fo me /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif ) I will be absent till July 3.
Anyway the work over patch almost finished. So I hope to get final result during 2-2,5 weeks.

After the patch, we'll work and compile the small add-on with some new staff and if neccessary - will fix the last bugs that may be present in released already patch (not all is possible to find even with hundreds of testers that are working right now over the patch).

In a patch are hundreds changes in all areas. We were reading forums with great attention. So all fixes that were considerend by us as bugs, but not limits of technology, etc we tried to correct.
There also will be some improvements in online and video.
Sound - completely new driver.

That all that I would like to tell for a short time before I will run from office.

Please be patient and wait a bit more. We would like to make once and good /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif . Such thing deserver some time.

"The picture repeats itself when operations, which began with great intent and local successes, degenerated into senseless, wild hammering at fixed front-line positions once they encounter initial heavy losses and unforeseen situations. This incomprehensible phenomenon appears again and again. But, even in extremis, the Russian is never logical; he falls back on his natural instinct, and the nature of the Russian is to use mass, steamroller tactics, and adherence to given objectives without regard to changing situations."

Bavaria is one of the oldest European states.
It dates back to about 500 A.D., when the Roman Empire was overcome by the onslaught of Germanic tribes. According to a widespread theory, the Bavarian tribe had descended from the Romans who remained in the country, the original Celtic population and the Germanic invaders.

Okay, I guess I am not quite understanding this. Did Oleg say the patch would be released in 2-2.5 weeks from now (i.e. July 5-9), one week after he got back from a 2/5 week vaction (July 12-16) or some other time later in July?

Very good news. Thank you Oleg.

From what he said presumably that means they'll have it ready for release in around 3 weeks.

The thing that concerns me is that this appears to confirm a pay for add-on. When that comes out questions of cost and (certainly from my POV) whether it will go to ALL places FB was sold, and also will it come out at the same time everywhere (ie within a week of release).

The last thing it needs is a 4-6 week gap between the US and the rest of the world getting it (like with FB /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif ), That did not make UBI look good. Otherwise people will resort to pirating it instead and UBI will pack another sad. And lets consider that its going to have to cost a sizeable amount to justify making it profitable to ship. At what point will people not pay for planes?

If it has to be pay for, at least let's all get it at the same time this time. Please.

Oh, and if Oleg and Co are listening, how about letting us have the option of skinning stationery planes (it's hard making scenarios when the wrong countries planes are on the field /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif , and allowing FMB/QMB usage of custom squadrons/badges like the Multiplay option gives? My $0.02c worth.

Here's to a great patch and not too long afterwards a worthy aircraft pack (with more maps please /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ).

Huh? When did anyone confirm this? Did Oleg say "I confirm that the addon will be for sale?" ? Oh, well, if it is I'll buy it, but then those who do not will have online issues with those that do. I'll believe it when I see it.

Thanks for he update Oleg, but I wish that you could have either confirmed or denied this RUMOR.

tsisqua, it was the use of the wording "add-on". This has been debated here for a while now. And yes there would be the online issue to consider too. Good point.

But having just re-read Oleg's message, the use of "small" beforehand seems to imply that there will be a downloadable aircraft patch/add-on (w/ any more bug-fixes) released after the patch. So they probably wouldn't make people pay for a patch by hiding it in a pay-for add-on. Otherwise they'd just wait until the end and make a GOTY edition and put everything in that and expect people to buy it.

My concern was that if anything comes out in pay-for form, that 1. everyone can get it and 2. it's released near simultaneously.

If they do release a small aircraft add-on in downloadable fashion, then it might mean that they then either wait until everything is ready and release a gold edition at the Oleg-designated end of development period (which was 9 months after FB was released I think) and it is then a pay-addon, or they release a/c in small packs/patches up to the end (ie like the 46 patch, a biplane pack etc etc), then maybe would appear the GOTY/Gold Edition/whatever.

It would be nice to get the official line on this. But I think that Oleg isn't the only one with input on that decision.

Wonder if Oleg is off on holiday with those young lady fans from the other week /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif . They should nurse him back to health quite quickly /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif .

I don't know about the rest of you mooks, but I'll probably be playing 1.0 right on up until the patch is available. Nothing in the game now is a game breaker for me, even the AI AA gunners are *tolerable*. And tail gunners ? I'm ok with them (attack low), but I tend to forget about waist gunners and give them perfect shots.

So I'm good for now, see you online. In fact, if you hate FB 1.0... take a break and be rusty when the patch comes out.

Hi Oleg !

Thanks for the hard work you have done for us making IL-2
that is just the best flying simulator ever made.
Hope you have a great time at your vacation !
Flying one of the planes created by you at the game or at the on line optiom , it's a journey thru time that brings up memories of brave pilots and their honor, no matter what side they were. When i bought my computer january this year ( never had one before! ) First thing i did after turning it on, was to put an IL-2 CD on it and start to play and never had big problem to run this game.
I'm a professional radio control model instructor here in Brazil so i just had to adjust my hand and learn the gunnering skills. My wife and son also fly your simmulator !
Flying ability is a natural born thing given to a pilot so when whe use it... it's strait fron the heart !!
The game patch is very wellcome when it comes and we thank you for the hard work you have done.Any improvments are wellcome! Don't let the bad comments let you down.We invest time on flying skills here /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

If you get the chance to came here im Brazil...My home is your home !!!

You are number 1 Hero here !!!! We Salutte You !!!

Its nice to see the sound fixed. I've been suffering under spolotchy and intermittant sounds the whole time . . . and I still can't be seperated from the game.

Glad to hear the good news. I'm now looking forward to actually getting to play FB (if the patch is a reworked sound driver).

Can't wait.

Sorry, but it would be nice starting to take deadlines seriously.

Now two weeks are gone since Oleg's post. Hope it's the 2,5 weeks variant (had to be beginning of April, then May, then June, soon it'll be middle of July...).

Regards.

Even if it's the 2,5 week variant - if it would be that close, they could at least tell us something now like "Patch will be available for download in 3 days, it will change the following in the following manner." Why don't they do that? Because it will not be out this week, I'm afraid. And you know, I think here are two kinds of people: Those who played other crappy "offline" sims like CFS1, BoB (before it was modded by its great community), JAS or whatever. For those, IL-2 and FB seem to be the best sims ever. Probably they don't even note the major differences between IL-2 and FB.
Then there are the second kind of people, who played other dedicated "hardcore" flightsims before, and frankly, those tend to be online sims done by similar enthusiasts like Oleg and developed/enhanced continously over the years. Those guys caught interest in IL-2 because it was probably the first "offline sim" which came very close to those proffessional online sims like Warbirds and AH, even exceeding it in some parts (eye candy of course, and gunnery/DM e.g.). Before they didn't bother much to fly an offline main-stream sim for longer than a few weeks, because there is no comparison.

For this second group the issues which arose in FB are SERIOUS. It's serious when a Hurricane suffers from as little E loss like here, doing as good as a 109 in the vertical. It's serious when the P-39 is on par with the 109 series and therefore becomes one of the best front-line fighters, while the P-47 is considered as "not a fighter at all" by the developer and therefore has the rollrate of a He111 as soon as on medium speed. It's serious when the FW-190, considered the best German fighter line in the war, loses almost all the advantages (zoom, extraordinary high speed handling, acceleration) it was considered to have iRL and had them in the other professional sims, and gets thereby replaced by the 109, which has an even better visibility (which is crap by all RL accounts) and does great where the FW should do. It's serious when the P-40 blows up at medium speed, while it was considered a great diver iRL (read about the AVG) and when it has a stall characteristic horrific second to none (probably closest to the former IL-2 P-39 FM), while iRL it was also used as a combat TRAINING aircraft. Only the russian planes seem to have no issues at all, they all excell in almost all categories and just don't fit to the majority of the other planes.
All these things are not small issues, they are serious for anyone who studied WWII air engagements and Air Forces history over the years and has seen Flightsims which are living up much better to the general consens of WWII a/c. You don't need any in-depth charts or a degree in engineering in order to see that something runs wrong here. When in 50 years someone comes up with a car simulation and tells me the Trabbi could outrun a BMW Z3 I will tell him he is full of crap, I don't need any debate about that. And when he bothers to ask me if I ever sit in one of those cars to be able to tell so, I will laugh even louder. IL-2 was one hell of a better simulation than FB, I deeply hope the patch will change this thing in a MAJOR way or it will be gone off my HD. But as it is now, they don't even tell us what will be changed (talking about "areas of change" has close to zero information value, and the serious stuff, like E-retention hasn't been adressed at all), which is a bad sign in my book. I seriously doubt the arcadish FM will be changed back closer to IL-2, which would be the only way to go imho, because why did they alter it then in the first place??

And one more thing: Some people here already harbored concerns about the fact that it will be THE patch. From experience I recon that THE patch is generally a bad thing. Because more often than not, there will still be serious issues found after THE patch. It would have been a way better idea imho to drope some smaller patches, with the most obvious issues (like P-40 explosion bug, 190 bad high speed handling) adressed way sooner. That would have muted a lot of heated emotions before they could arise like now. It seems however they are doing THE patch now and then move on to something else. So, I'm afraid if there are issues left, they will probably never get adressed, mostly because of the great care by Ubi Soft.

Regards
heartc

(Sorry for the somewhat harsh tone, but I'm a little bit disappointed in Oleg's work, seeing he could do much better in IL-2.)

All I can say is that I agree wholeheartedly with HeartC. I honor his opinion, for he has the guts to say that the way FB simulates the behaviour of the aircraft is not correct.

Not many on these forums have such courage to step out.

Once again, thank you, HeartC. Let us wish that this first patch will fix the forementioned issues.

Thank you, but it doesn't take much guts to post something on a forum http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. I'm not afraid of the Fanboy crowd, for they have little idea and I can't even blame them - as I said if they flew only CFS1 stuff before, FB indeed lets them see some of "the light" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. Actually some others already brought up similar concerns in former postings, while more de-centralized perhaps, by the nature of the specific threads.

My best guess is we will be lucky to see a "patch" by early Aug. Because (comments made in this forun) there are a few weeks work remaining on this. We've seen beta testers in HL flying the various versions (like test07). So, to be realistic, Aug-Sept is my best guess. Anyone care to start a pool to guess the date?

As a reply to Heart_C's concern of having only one patch:

Yes, you are right. But you know why I forgot about that? Because I don't like two things here: The term "if neccessary" and the way how Ubi deals with THE patch http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. But let's hope for the better :-).

as I am not at all deep in my knowledge of planes' performance and correct modelling, I am not so much suffering because of these issues.
Which makes the systematic incapability of keeping to the announced deadlines even more serious. Issues such as the AI behaviour or the unuasable campaign generator are problems which heavily hinder the most elementary playability of FB (unless you choose invulnerability!) and that should have already been addressed a long time ago.
Launching new products is tricky on every market, but playing with customers by promising a solution to acknowledged problems that is systematically moved forward in time is to say the least not a behaviour up to the standards to which 1C lives up with the creation of IL2 and FB.
What I wish for is simply to get a finalized product and not some kind of perennial prototype.
