What do you think about it? So far, Lock On looks the most promising.

Lock On: http://www.lo-mac.com/

Falcon 4 Gold: http://www.falcon4gold.com/

Doesn't look as good as Lock On.

Jetfighter 5: http://www.jetfighter5.com/html/main.html

Also doesn't look as good as Lock On.

WW2 Battle of Brittain: http://www.totalsims.com/slicks/blitz_site.php

The 'rival' of the announced new 1C game?

Wings of Honour: http://www.city-interactive.com/aces.html

Sounds arcadish to me. And if it's not a simulation, I don't like it.

What do you all think? Anything interesting, or only are lock on and the fb expansion the games worth buying?

Well I can tell you about Wings of Honour, cos I played it at the Flightsim show. Absolute waste of time. Mediocre arcade game - Crimson Skies without the cool Crazee planes, fun plot; and the graphics are worse too.

Thanks for your reactions. Tenmike: why is it downloadable on 3dgamers, and why isn't it downloadable on the official site? Why is it greyed out? Thanks a lot for the link.

- Lock On:

Played the demo: didn't like it. Its a screen-shot generator, not an imersive flight-sim.

But its Falcon. I'll probably get this, even though I've never played Falcon. I figure, it so many people still love it, it must be really good.

Jetfighter 1,2,3 & 4 were arcade games. I doubt this will be different, but i'll check out the site when I get time.

I don't care about this. BoB this and BoB that. I am wondering how many BoB-themed games we need.

I agree. Sounds like a kiddie game.

LO:MAC ranks alongside Strike Fighters: Project 1. At this point, I seriously doubt anyone will find it truely enjoyable (besides the suckers who buy it and want to beat their drums of justification).

Looks to be Warbirds III rethemed. Wabirds III
isn't bad - the graphics are better than WB 2
or Aces High, if a bit shy of FB. Flight models
feel a little less crips. Cockpits are much
less accurate, but view system is better. Gunnery
is VERY much easier. Not many players for a MMOG.

the others are crap, but battle of britian by total sims is going to be fun, the graphics arent that great but they are damn good for massive multiplayer gaming, something il2fb is not capable of and wont be.

I agree with Lead.

BoB will be a free to play online 1 to massive.

It's not just warbirds III, it's been updated. Will have coop, mission editor, single player missions, etc...

I am looking forward to this - it is my favorite of the list.

As far as jets - I just can't seem to get into them http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you want the ultimate Jet-fighter sim, you should take Falcon 4.0 and upgrade it with SP3 (soon SP4) and the free-falcon patch (2.something)

It has more buttons to push than you can handle on your keyboard. Luckily, you also can click the buttons with your mouse, in the cockpit.

I played the (leaked) lock-on demo and, it seems all-right but, somewhat less-realistic.

In short, if you like realistic jetsims and don't care much about graphics, get falcon 4.0!! If graphics are important, get lock-on. ( I will get it also)

What changes have been made? The video clip I saw
didn't look massively different - maybe more fluid
aircraft movement and slightly better cockpits, but
I don't know how much post production had taken place.

WBIII already has a mission editor (of sorts) that
you can create simple single player missions from.

If it is good, I will buy it (and EAW II, and 1C's
BoB!)

LockOn
Well, I really hope the full meets my expectations - the demo didn't. I play it since it was released, but even with all these modifications available, the demo seems too superficial to me (even for a demo).

FalconGold
Falcon4 had a game-depth that was never reached since. Some say Flanker is flying a plane, Falcon4 is operating it.
I played both and I agree the flightmodel in Flanker is nice, but overall I like Falcon more, because it is more realistic and demanding.

Jetfighter 5
I doubt this will be a reasonable flight-SIM.

BoB by TotallySim
WBIII-addon. Nice, nice, not thrilling, but nice.

Wings of Honour
Arcade Game

KnightsOverEurope
Sounds very promising, but there's not much more to say, since there is only little information.

Anyone know of a new sim being developed by a French company based on the Falklands conflict flying the Harrier.

I always remember the flying Nightmares and enjoyed that in my Mac days of flight simin. Edios was producing a Flying Nightmares 2 which I believe was finished and ready to ship, but stopped it at the last minute. Pitty it looked good for the time about 1999.

Cheers

Lock On:

Some Lock On, features looks very impressive for me. Personaly I don't like modern jetsims at all, modern radars, laser-guided missles, ... too chance-related with too litle human role, this is not my vision of art of air combat; but this one have lot of nice visual features. Such detailed 3D cockpit, (it lools like real !); very cool observe - not depend on height from you look. From 200ft you see agricultural rich area, different colored fields with trees in their borders. Old dirty roads (it is real village road, muddy, not plain, with two signs of wheels). High-voltage lines and more and more - I saw it already from civilian jets, here in Ukraine. It all like real. And from high above it looks amazing, with clouds, earth borders sea and so on.
More of it - this is all with low settings. Picture looks better then from IL-2 /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
I understood, that current IL release will no more longer supported with new rendering features, but it will be nice see it all in BoB.

Falcon 4 Gold & Jetfighter 5: Never liked it.

Knights over Europe:
Never heard before, check link and finds it very cool. Of course, every sim in development have site with great screens, loud words 'realistic flying model', but if it all in game then I wan't this game ! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

p.s. A-10 flying very slow, just like prop. It is possible to image that this is IL-2. And Shilka - this is some secret Panzer tank ... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

kfurni -

Not sure about this being a French project, I'm almost certain it isn't, but I think this is one you are referring to.

http://www.thunder-works.com/

This is also the sim (apart from the newly announced 1C BoB) that I'm most looking forward to. If it's any good. Which I hope it is. Flying a Sea Harrier off a carrier in rolling South Atlantic swell is my idea of simulator heaven.

Cheers,

SSS

Apparently there won't be any SP4. Claude is upset at frugal, so frugal will case any activity over Falcon 4 in about a month. If SP4 will not be released in a month you can kiss it good bye. And this Falcon Gold , don't pay for it. All the stuffs in the box you can download from the net. Contains SP3,FF,hitiles and that's about it.

hmm, falcon4 gold seems worth getting if it includes a paper manual and not a pdf file. Along with Lockon it seems to be the most worth getting.however, Xicat, anyone still have nightmares over Janes Attack Squadron?

I'm a crappy pilot, but one hell of a shot.

Aparently they've sorted out the problems and maybe something will come pretty soon :

[quote]
announcements. F4UT, like everyone else in the community, has been following the events of the last week very closely. We're glad that after the initial statements from G2i, clarification has been made on many fronts. One or two issues still remain, not least of which is the ban on including the SP3 exe within the SP4 Installer, which would have made the Falcon upgrade relatively painless (Falcon 4.0 --> 108US ---> SP4Installer). There might well be a workaround for this and it's being examined. The reason why F4UT wants the SP3 exe shipped with SP4 is because the data has been developed and extensively tested alongside the SP3 exe, which is why we feel it is the most suitable executable for SP4.

F4UT wishes to make it clear that it fully intends to release SP4 and not hold onto it for any longer than necessary. But, as F4UT has already stated, there remain a few data issues we want cleared up to try to ensure a product of the highest quality for a loyal and discerning flight sim community. The niggling problems are being sorted out on a daily basis and we're very close to a Release Candidate. We stress though that there is no date -- nor immediate timeframe -- for a formal release.

Please understand there'll be no further statements from F4UT because we're getting on with the job in hand, and hope to move forward in a positive and constructive way with SP4. However, we wish to thank the community for its patience and understanding in recent times.
