Thanks again for the interesting quiz.

There's a small mistake in the Finnish section, the correct date for Finland is 1.4.1945.
4.9.1944 is when Finland and USSR made a peace treaty, but the insignia was changed the following spring after the Soviets had unofficially demanded it.

Whoa! There were Russians who actually flew 109s for Germany, against other Russians during the war!?

It would be interesting to learn of the treatment by their, well, "comrades" in the event of being shot down and captured...

Such news to you?How for heavens sake can you comment on WWII flight combat then? This is BASIC HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE!

I flew one mission against an allied Me109 and that was in a FW190F8.Needless to say I got owned.

In the War Diary of Hauptmann Helmut Lipfert (great book available from Amazon) he describes a combat against a Romanian unit in 109's he had helped to train. 109 vs 109 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

To 'Treetop64' and others with interest in the Russian pilots, and other nationalities and nations, flying for the Third Reich, I can recommend to get hold of a copy of the book ? referred to in my answer to the quiz: '?n The Skies Of Europe, Air forces allied to the Luftwaffe 1939-1945' by Hans Werner Neulen.

To reflect some of the info given in the book on the fate of these Russians:
"On 24 April the following flying ROA flying formations were in the Reichs Protectorat Bohemia and Moravia: Fighter Squadron 5 'Kazakov'at Deutsch Brod, Night Harassment Squadron 8 with detachments at Eger and Deutsch Brod and the Replacement Squadron, also at Deutsch Brod.
Gen Aschenbrenner,in his function as the advisor to the ROA air force, and the Russian expert Hptm Professor Dr Oberlander established contact with the Americans, and smoothed the way to enable most members of the airforce of the Russian Peoples to become American POWs. These ROA men put down their arms at 10.00hrs between Zwiesel and Regen on 27 April 1945. The overwhelming majority of the 4.800 men managed to avoid repatriation to the Soviet Union. However in September 1945 the Western allies delivered 200 National Russian air force officers from Cherbourg to their sworn enemy, Stalin; and Maj Gen Maltsev was flown to Moskow in 1946. He was hanged in the Soviet capital, together with Gen Vlassov and other anti-communist officers, on 2 August 1946"

The reality behind flightsims based on wars do of course contain a reality background on the human level which is cruel. ? am sure the survival of an anti-communist Russian Pilot ending in Soviet captivity during, or just after the hostilities, in many cases was a matter of minutes or hours. There are also many cases of native German and Russian pilots who were tragically killed after parachuting or crashlanding on the "wrong" side of the front.
War brings out the beast in man.
