It has come to my attention that there is no real documentation for new users to setup a dedicated server running the new patched software 4.08m. I am hoping to pool in the information from many experienced users to make an understandable, concise and simple guide for anyone to follow in order to setup their own Dogfight server. Any input is welcome but I do not want see links to archaic old threads which are outdated by 5 years. It does not help anyone and it sure did not help me fully. Also users who are on the mind set of RTFM, please understand some of this stuff is not easy and I need help.

Thanks to those who wish to help.

Some threads and information that may be provided very well may be 5 years old but still be the most reliable and accurate , as i have experienced.

Its a mistake to use the words "concise" and "simple" to describe the proper set up of a dogfight server . In the best circumstances it will be neither.

You failed to mention which server manager software you are writing for. IL2SC? FBD ? FDBJ?

Each will have its own specific requirements .

Elaborate here or pm me.

If you are about to start work on a guide for 4.08, just be aware that the official 4.09 patch may be released any day (along with a 4.09 dedicated server patch).

Once those are released, 4.08 will basically be history.

I am not sure what the acronyms stand for. Another problem with the info online the people with the guides assume too much.

IL2SC
FBD
FDBJ

what is all of that?

ah er.....
Yes , i believe that its important that folks dont assume too much when instructing on server set ups.....

Those three terms are used to describe the three options for server manager software that must be used in conjunction with the dedicated server software provided with il2.

The three server managers allow control of the server in ways that the dedicated server software does not. Each has its own capabilities and requirements and each will affect how the maps are made for the server. You will want to use one if you want any reasonable use of the server.

I can't at this point post links for you. I will soon post some links so that you can familiarize yourself with whats required. If you havent heard of those things than its apparent some more time studying is in your future.
