I am really starting to notice little touches that make this game a Tad unrealistic. Do you know what i mean?

Yeah.. I agree...

Why on earth would a Spitfire be on a Japanese Carrier? That is so wrong and unrealistic!

It's just a limitation of the engine.

The actual 'landable' deck area has to be a very simple, convex 3d shape. This means it will not exactly correspond to the deck you see.

Given a choice between making the landable area smaller or larger than the real deck, the dev team chose larger. As a result, you might hang in the air if you taxi to the very edge in some places.

Also, I think the aircraft's central pivot is used to determine if its 'on' or 'off' the deck.

With terrain, the game uses the wheel positions individually. They can't do this with carriers, because it would cause the tailwheel to kick up as you fly off the deck.

If that is a brit carrier, take a look at a different angle. Those ships had retractable supports that would swing out and were just wide enough for a tailwheel to fit in. these were designed to let the Brits park thier planes out over the edge like this to compensate for the small areas availible on the decks.

I dont know if this is the case here or just a malfunction as you mention. There are alot of things in this sim that actually make it more realistic, but sometimes there are some mistakes. Not sure which this is here.

May I quote one of Oleg's programmers?

"This is flight sim, not ship sim, be sure!"

I'm less concerned about the content of the pic and more concerned about the quality. How the heck do you get water to look like that? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Here's my rig;

A8NE-FM 1.81 GHz
WinFast PX6800 TDH 256mb
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+ Venice
1 gb Corsair DDR 400

Is it possible to get the quality in the pic above?

in your configINI file find down the bottom the word water

chang the value there to a 3

will work with your graphics card

I did that a long time ago. I still don't get the quality I see others have in screenshots.

for the fancy water to show , you have to be running in Perfect mode

number 3 is the nicest , most graphic intensive perfect water

In my set up I have everything at it's highest settings. Is that what you mean B-sight by "Perfect"?

If you have water=3 and run OpenGL, you should notice that in one of the Video Options fields, "Perfect" becomes selectable. I'll check it out now.

Well, just checked it out. For Perfect you have to be able to set "Landscape detail" to "Perfect". If all your settings are on Excellent and you have water=3 then it should work.
Strangely, while I was looking at that I discovered that in "Landscape Lighting" I can't set mine to "Excellent". It is there but greyed out. Because of that I think I am also unable to select "Landscape Detail" as "Perfect".
Any thoughts?

Blatant Thread Hijack (Sorry)
Wish I'd never seen this thread now. I have two lines in my conf file, both under OpenGL, BOTH for water. That isn't right,is it? Strangely, if I set the top one to water=3 it always reverts to 1, even after saving it, reopening, checking. I used to have a good link to a conf settings guide. Can anyone point me in that direction? Will post this in the Help forum, too.

Run il2setup and check you are running in OpenGL NOT Directx

That water looks gorgeous.

I was thinking of getting a new graphics a card in a week or so, do you guys think that a 6600GT would run at perfect settings and water like that shot (water-3) or would I need at least a X800 Pro?

I can get a 6600GT for about 110 or a X800 Pro for around 160.

I dont wanna go for a 6800 GT cos they are a lot more expensive.

Would a 6600GT suffice? Or do I need the X800 Pro?

Well, I'm running mine in GL mode, trees and water set at 3, and still, the visual quality is no where near the screenshots you guyz post. This is part of the reason I don't fly anymore.

You won't get water like that with x800, go for nvidia. I have x800xt but water=3 is not compatible with it.

You give up too easily, a little effort is required to get the full benefit of your equipment.
What are your aniso and aa settings?
What resolution are running in?
All these effect your display.

Pirsch did you try water=1? Try that.. Ihave a 6800 card although mine is AGP... I can run water=3 but I dont like the frames... in the mid 20s... so I go with water=1 which IMO is almost as good as 3... way better than 2...

You didn't hear? Oleg has solved this problem with BoB. You get a complimentary stick of dynamite with BoB that you wire to your Esc key. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Why a Nvidia card over ATI??

The ATI card should have the same shaders for Water=3 as the Nvidia cards?

Jaws2002
09-07-2005, 04:51 PM
The GeForce 6800 Ultra has full Pixel Shader 3.0 support.
ATI doesn't, and that's what you need to run water 3
