Bavaria is one of the oldest European states.
It dates back to about 500 A.D., when the Roman Empire was overcome by the onslaught of Germanic tribes. According to a widespread theory, the Bavarian tribe had descended from the Romans who remained in the country, the original Celtic population and the Germanic invaders.

I just tried it out real quick, played the first mission. Seems pretty cool, a must have for USAAF and P-47 fans.

One question, why did you use DB-3's instead of Pe-8's for the bombers? The DB-3 looks a little bit more like a B-17 in shape but the Pe-8 looks better overall IMHO (the four engines are a must). This isn't a criticism, just curious.

Thank you for the work you put into this, I will likely play this through to the end as it adds some variety to FB that was lacking of late IMO. Much appreciated.

The only bad part is that I have to fly that damned P-47. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

the USAAF formation flies a bit too low for me taste.
but still a nice campagne. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

i played the first 2 missions
first one i got 3 kills and made it back to base
no hits on me , and we lost one bomber ( 4 others light damage)

second one i shot down one 109 and destroyed 2 he 111 and one bf110 on the ground
the gunners from one of the 110 hit my 2 feul tanks and by the time the mission was completed i ran out of feul above a forest ,just crossing jerry lines
P-47 drops fast without engine so i had to divert course back into german territory ,
i chraslanded just in front of road block with an hungarian tank and some german troops
i was captured and sent to interrigation

cool campaign Simon
i only wish you also had used the Pe-8 as a US bomber
************************************************** *****
i found a strange bug! , nothing to do with your campaign butt with the P47
putt it on autopilot and watch the "flap" handle(to your left, next to your seat, woodenhandle) in your cockpit make full cirkels ( wich it is not supposed to do /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif )

In the interest of variety I've used various bombers as substitutes.

Have you come across the loadout bug yet?
Select the 75 gallon droptank and six rockets. You are given 2 x 500lb bombs whether you want them or not!

still lots of bugs in fb, although i find the P-47 much easier to fly and i can finally just dive away when a bf 110 is on my six

quick question , P-47 has 2 fueltanks right ( 2 fuel meters)

where are they located , because some 7.9 MG hit my belly , got 2 messages feul tank hit and was out of fuel in less then 10 min

and yeah, i wondered why everybody had bombs on them , when the briefing said rockets only /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Flying that P-47 over Berlin with US squadron mates was eye-opening. Finally, I can really relate and "get into" Il-2. Yes, the "American bombers" are really Russian bombers with US markings...but they do resemble B-25s. What a (for me) ground breaking new addition to Il-2 FB. THANKS!!!!!!

Hi Extreme,

First off thanks. Fun twist on the norm. If I were going to be critical of anything it would be two items. Keep in mind when I say this that I've only flown the first four missions so I don't know if this is the way it is throughout the campaign.

1) Starting in the air is a pet peeve of mine. I know you're trying to simulate bases in Britian, but it doesn't quite feel that way. Seems kinda weird to start in the air.

2) USAAF cruising altitudes are way too low.

Don't get me wrong, I've been having a blast with it so far. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif You asked for comments and criticism though /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

What a day, 1.11 and a USAAF campaign !

I just ran the first mission and I must say, 6 x .50 = 3 x 110. I just tore up 110s with the 6 .60s, the third flamed and fell into a spin. I've hit an airbase with a P-47 before, but doing it in a campaign tomorrow night will be even more fun.

As a bonus, I just hit a sweet spot in setting on my first try with 1.11. Everything, specifically including sound on a Santa Cruz card (in Full mode, full accel and 32 channels) was smooth in 1024x768x32 on my Ti4600, Athlon 1226 (ish) under Win2k with 512MB. Framerate wasn't *high* but it was consistent.

Sweet.

The awards are not quite historically correct. In the USAAF campaign files, the awards from highest to lowest are:

Medal of Honor

Distinguished Service Cross

Airman's Medal[This was not actually instituted until 1960...but is probably included in order to fill the Gap for the Seventh campaign award.]

Silver Star

Distinguished Flying Cross

Bronze Star

Army Commendation Medal [This award should be the Air Medal, a picture(JPG format) of which is below. If someone resizes it and converts/renames it to an "award0.tga" file, it can be used to overwrite the incorrect Army Commendation medal image in the US campaign folder.

- The awards are not quite historically correct. In
- the USAAF campaign files, the awards from highest to
- lowest are:
-
-
- Medal of Honor
-
- Distinguished Service Cross
-
- Airman's Medal[This was not actually instituted
- until 1960...but is probably included in order to
- fill the Gap for the Seventh campaign award.]
-
- Silver Star
-
- Distinguished Flying Cross
-
- Bronze Star
-
- Army Commendation Medal [This award should be the
- Air Medal, a picture(JPG format) of which is below.
- If someone resizes it and converts/renames it to an
- "award0.tga" file, it can be used to overwrite the
- incorrect Army Commendation medal image in the US
- campaign folder.

OK I'll make the altitudes higher. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Enough people have made this comment now to warrant re-doing those missions affected.
