Why is the sound in FB1.1 so horrible? You can't hear a thing except the constant gunfire of ships and flak 20km away. I just got back from Greatergreen where everyone was reporting the same sound problem.

You can barely hear your own engine. You can't hear other aircraft. You can't hear people shooting at you. I'm trying very hard not to hurl insults at Oleg & his crew here, so I shall instead grit my teeth wait to see if they have anything to say.

The sound is HORRIBLE. I am shocked that Ubi let this patch slip out the door.

The big issue I notice with the sound are the sharp cracks and pops I hear when I change views or turn my head around in the cockpit.

Other issues: some prop planes (like the Bf-109E or P-47) have engine sounds that drop to a bizarrely low pitch when throttled all the way down. I didn't know engines could sound like that...

The open 'pit I-16 has the sound of whipping wind and gunfire and engine sounds as if you were right there in the open air. The other open 'pit planes (I-153, P.11c...) have no wind sound and have gunfire and engine sounds as if they were muffled through an enclosed cockpit. Just a little inconsistent.

When playing as a gunner on a multi-place plane (Ju-87, Il-2, TB-3, He-111), when you fire the guns the engine sound becomes noticeably quieter, and becomes louder again when you stop. It should really all remain at the same volume.

I'm not a whiner by any means. The patch is an admirable piece of work and improves a lot. This is just nagging little stuff that can easily be fixed with a little tweaking.

I tried the Stuka today. After diving with sirens on, the engine sound was cut down by the half. Strange.... It also seemed to me that my MK108 got silencers with the patch /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif .
But nevertheless some things sound better now. Well, it's an open beta and I'm sure this small probs will be fixed.

It's strange.
I think the sound in 1.1b is much better than old one.
Audigy (Hardware accelerator Full)
1.Crap noise between AI Chat is disappeared.
2.Engine and gunshot are very detailed modeled.

I totally agree. I have played IL2 for the last 6 months and the sound is crap compared to IL2. I can't hear flaps except for the horn, I can't hear wheels hit the ground which should be easily heard. Definately can't get the immersion in FB as with IL2

Using Basic acceleration and the default sound settings I have achieved fairly high-quality sound (better, more realistic than pre-patch) on my Santa Cruz card, except:

1. When most of the sounds drop out suddenly during some missions.

2. When I fire guns, and the sound fades in and out too drastically.

3. When it seems that some sounds are missing. This may be intentional, but it seems to me that bullets striking the cockpit should make a lot of noise and that I should be able to hear some wind buffeting, especially in open cockpits or when the engine's dead. Sometimes I think these sounds are still there, but just extremely quiet.

4. When I can hear flak guns firing many kilometers away from inside my cockpit.

Yes, I've found those problems, too. Engine sounds disappear suddenly and re-appear without no evident reason.

Someone should make one of those official "bug reports". I don't want to do it. It seems so complex... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

The LaGG3s now have stealth engines when in the cockpit, kinda makes it hard as hell to properly use prop pitch and mixture.

About engine fading when guns fire, doesn't anyone think it might be intentional? I mean I've fired a few rounds with a rifle, after the first shot all sounds faded, and it lasted for a while. I think it was meant to simulate temperary hearing damage.

Except in that situation you have you head right next to the rifle not seperated by several meters, several layers of metal, dampened by the airstream as well as not wearing a leather cap with radio phones over your ears...
