That is the name of a P-51 today. Was it also the name of the airplane during the war, or is it a modern invention?

You are right,' said Pangloss, 'for, when man was placed in the Garden of Eden, he was placed there ut operaretur eum, to dress it and keep it; which proves that man was not born for idleness.' 'Let us work without theorizing," said Martin, 'tis the only way to make life endurable.'"-- Voltaire, Candide

You're all too obsessed with that plane. I like B-17, you dont see me calling it names like...big mama, or stormy something or other.

You're probably referring to the black and white checkered version of BBD which was flown by Col. John D. Landers when he commanded the 78th FG out of Duxford.

He also flew different Mustang's carrying the BBD name with the 55th and 357th FG's (I'm almost positive that Skychimp's photo shows Landers' 55th FG Doll).

The original Big Beautiful Doll Mustang presently hangs suspended next to a FW190 in the Imperial War Museum in London.
