View Full Version : About patch 1.4 (nothing new, just clarifying about being grumpy)

This was originally intended to be a PM in reply to BobV_07 but it's probably of interest to you all so here you go:

Apologies for being grumpy but it can become somewhat exasperating being stuck between a rock and a hard place €" trust me, both sides get my grumpyness, not just you lot http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

When it comes to Silent Hunter III I€m not able to comment on the patch little more than it€s in development, the devteam don€t want to be officially committed to something when there€s some time left and things might change. It would be reasonable to assume that things that 1.3 broke would be fixed but I can€t officially commit to that.

The reason for it taking around a month to get the patch finished? We want it fully and extensively tested so it doesn€t cause problems to your game. The last thing we want to happen is to break more things than we fix.

What€s going to be fixed? Many things. Again, I can€t commit to anything as some things might be changed in the testing/development of the patch. (If anyone you become lucky enough to see readme€s for patches then you€ll see what I mean)

When we€re satisfied with the patch we€ll release more information. Sorry about it taking so long but, as anyone in software development will tell you, sometimes when you€re asked €œhow long?€ you immediately get a mental picture of a ball of string.. Usually with a lil kitten stuck on the end making it longer and longer.. I like kittens I do.

Lots of love

Thanks for the news, i have been sat patiently with 1.2 waiting for 1.4 to see the light of day. I began to start thinking that maybe 1.4 was not meant to be. Im glad you have proved me wrong, will be lookin forward to 1.4 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Me to, I take in every stray puzzy that comes into our garden. At the moment I have 42 mounted on the wall, just need a couple more of those skunk squirting toms to fill in the space above the book case.

Hi UbiRazz,

I am an old mariner and very happy about the good visual design of SH3. But never the less the several little bugs are very disharmonic to a maritime reallity. So by the moment I am very frusted. Now I will thank UbiRazz for his last statement about the coming patch.

Naturally my friends and I (some captains in command, pilots and other mariner so I am) had send many statements and screens direct to the Ubi_Solution_Centre.
We as hardliners of subsims instantly hope that in a coming patch we will find in the game the values of a real boatposition (Lat. Lon. only situated in the World_Map of the Mission_Editor by the moment) in the Nav.-Map and Distances in Nautical_Miles like usual in the reallity.

Good Job

good news

Again thanks for the response Razz, I€m doing a fresh install when 1.4 comes out as I don€t have the game on the machine right now as I did a clean install of the OS a few weeks back.

Hey liking kittens, I think for letting us in on what info you have someone should start a funny Kitten picture thread dedicated to the man.

I hope and prey still of that Screen resolution fix so I can get the best out my 19€ TFT screen. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Not sure if I understand you right, but patch 1.3 has a bug in it. After installing it, your sonarman and watch officer will no longer be able to verbally warn you of contacts.
From what I have seen I do believe that the dev team has decided to not fix 1.3 but rather to work on patch 1.4. And of course patch 1.4 SHOULD have the fix in it for the sonarman and watchman bug. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif But, we shall see!

Thanks for the update Ubi. I have the highest confidence that the dev team will address the bugs of 1.3 in this new patch; how could they allow the game to continue without a capable sonarman? This is going test a lot of peoples patience but the true diehards will be here in the end and thats what counts. I gotta say a sim must be good if a bunch of people are will to continue playing a "busted" game while waiting with baited breath for a fix. I usually don't play "busted" games but even with its flaws SHIII is a **** good one. hats off to the dev team, keep it coming for the fans

Would this be possible?

We know the sonar guy works fine with 1.2

Look at various config files and see what's changed from 1.2 to 1.3, anything that links to sonar man.

Back up those 1.2 config files.

Patch up to 1.3, then overwrite back the 1.2 config files and see if he reports contacts again

I'm going for a full re-install of the game today, i was thinking of running version 1.2 for the time being

Thanks for the update UbiRazz - I am still using 1.3 but probably should be using 1.2 until 1.4 comes out. I love the game - can't wait until the next patch and can't wait until an expansion http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I would be difficult being the mediator between two different interested parties. I emphasise.

Take care - I'm sure you'll keep us in the loop when you can.

thanks ubi razz, we only hope that with the 1,4 crashs (battles) Sub. vs Sub. can be made know it that it is not realistic but at least one plays with human intelligence, (would have to be able to give the order to the crew to attack also the sub).
the new orders would have to be:
to attack the cargo vessel;
to attack the ship from war;
to attack the selected submarine.

ciao un saluto a tutti http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I sincerely hope some of the major multiplayer bugs will get fixed, such as the fact that clients in multiplayer cannot hear pinging by escort, only server can, not to mention broken damage system where clients receive much more damage in strange ways (such as hull going down to 10% instantly while no internal damage visible or other way around). I am glad to hear patch is development either way but it would be nice to get multiplayer back into the swing of things.

Right back to getting that patch out lads apart from the scary star force story€s affecting rewritable DVD drives which I hope is nonsense because I€ve still to re install the game on my fresh system and decided just to wait till the next patch€¦.

Waiting for patches is, in some ways, the most realistic part of this simulation. Picture the scene in 1940...

Kaleun: So, wenn do we get those promised U-Boot upgrades.
BdU: *silence*
Kaleun: Er... hallo! Ich have men relying on those upgrades! What about ein new Sonar- System. This GDB is so useless, my sonarman ist effectively deaf.
BdU: *silence*
Kaleun: Und, when are you going to deploy some Milchkuhe?
BdU: (at long last) Look, Herr Kaleun, we're working on it!
Kaleun: (happy) Ah! Well, I'm so glad you've said something. I'll let the men know. See you after the next patrol. (leaves, happily).

Seriously now, thanks UbiRazz for letting us know. I think most of us are content to know that things are happening, even if only slowly. But not knowing anything can be frustrating. Thanks for the update - I'm looking forward to the new patches/expansions.

UbiRazz,

Will ship names be added to the upcoming patch? I reveiwed some of the other topic areas in regards to development, and noted that ship names would be a possibility. I also found that at time you migh be able to intercept radio traffic from a ship that was under attack. Though I find it hard to believe that this may have been done; to date, any stragglers that I have attacked or sunk, have yet to send radio traffic stating they were under attack. Maybe I've just been lucky or the ships are really that stupid.

About the weather: Not whining, but 10 days of continuous storm is: a) Not realistic. b) Annoying to the point of unplayable. Please consider maximum 3 day storms.

Just my 2 cents.

It is true that having a crippled merchant in early years of the war after the convoy leaves it and being unable to gun it down because of the storm is annoying.

But please don't say that it is unrealistic to have a long storm on the North Atlantic. Why? It so happens that the Atlantic Current clashes with cold waters from up north (among them the Spitsbergen Current remnants swirling from the polar regions. This causes severe weather perturbances and moderate storms longer than 3days are nor a rarity whatsoever.

As an example, please refer to Das Boot, where the storm lasts over 20 days on end.

Cheershttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
