Fine, realistic looking picture. I see nothing wrong with the words, they make sense with the situation being shown.

i just don't see any historical basis on that, that's all. Maybe if it were about a finnish B-239 squadron i would find it less bad http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Anyway, as i said very nice pic and that's what matters.

Btw, were there Slovaks in RAF? I know about the Czechs cause i've also seen and liked "Dark Blue World", but what about the Slovaks?

Btw, "one of the few" would fit better.

well im not sure that i understand.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Sure they was! lots of them.. problem is that they were called Czechs.. not cuz of they were Czechs but cuz it was shorened Czechoslovaks.. That was a federation till 1991 (unfortunately - was), now thats two different countries.. Czech and Slovak.. (there r also few Slovaks in D.B.W.)

Nice pic but if you don't mind a pointer, I think you should consider the shading. Look at the left side of the spit and the left side of the 109. Nice pic anyway. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Unless you are a chute-shooter I think "mess with the best, go down with the rest" would be more appropriate. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Sure m8, i am european, i know some of the history of Czechoslovakia. On March 14, 1939, the first independent Slovak Republic was established, and Father Tiso was chosen as head of government. With independence, Slovakia came under heavy German influence and protection. Tiso allowed German troops to occupy Slovakia in August 1939, and the country entered World War II as Germany‚‚ā¨ôs ally.

... and my question was whether there were Slovaks in the RAF and you answered that there were, but they were usually called Czechs. thx.

As for what annoyed me a little bit with the wording, I feel that a pilot should not even spell the word die for his enemy. It's a matter of chivalry. "Go down like the rest" would be much better like Pirschjaeger said.

If I may speak some words for us Slovaks http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Slovakia was occupied 1944 after the national uprising begann. Till then German troops where troops from our friendly helpfull ally Germany http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif We had soldiers almost on all fronts (we didnt fought for Japan http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ). In the West the RAF and in the Czechoslovak armored brigade. In the East 2 Army divisions and fighter squadron of the Slovak army with Germany. 1st. Czechoslovak Army corps and fighter squadron with Russia. In this game I can fight with RAF,VVS and LW and I can say its historic acurate. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

What is curious in the whole picture is that in BoB the highest scoring pilot AFAIK was Galland. So that makes him automatically one of the best fighter pilots in BoB if not *the* best.

Pure ace gang are (15 or more kills)

Adolf Galland 36 Luftwaffe
Werner M√¬∂lders 25? Luftwaffe
Herbert Ihlefeld 24 Luftwaffe
Hans Karl Mayer 21 Luftwaffe
Eric Lock 21 RAF
Hans Ekkehard Bob 19? Luftwaffe
Arnold Lignitz 19? Luftwaffe
'Ginger' Lacey 18 RAF
Heinz Bretn√ľtz 18 Luftwaffe
Archie McKellar 17+1 RAF
Erich Schmidt 17 Luftwaffe
Josef Frantisek (Czech) 17 RAF
Gerhard Schopfel 16 Luftwaffe
Dietrich Hrabak 16? Luftwaffe
B.J.G. Carbury (New Zealander) 15+1shared RAF
Colin Gray (New Zealander) 15+1shared RAF
J.K.U.B. McGrath 15? RAF

PS: I have probably left someone out http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

i dont think that u can mesure it this way.. RAF was badly overnumbered in BoB.. did u realy put such effort to show that "the best" was LW?

ty!

No prob.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i dont think that u can mesure it this way..

I'm not measuring anything that list is a fact that I have found in a book. Now if that book is incorrect so is my list.

RAF was badly overnumbered in BoB..
I call that "target rich enviroment" for RAF.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

did u realy put such effort to show that "the best" was LW?

Joke aside... IMO there was no such thing as best RAF or best LW or anything like that.

Just pilots who were scoring more than others for whatever that reason may be, were generally considered "better" fighter pilots by their comrades and their adversaries. That is why they have established snobish "ace" status anyway.

About Slovakia, Hitler had taken advantage of the existence of a strong Slovak separatist movement to destroy Czechoslovakia in 1939. The Slovaks had been compelled to declare their independence (along with the Ruthenians) on 14 March 1939 so as to gain protection from the Germans against their Hungarian and Polish neighbors, who had claims on their territories. Hungary and Poland had both harbored ambitions to annex certain areas of Slovakia and divide it up amongst themselves, but these were not possible after Slovakia had gained German protection.

Remember that Slovakia had belonged to Austria-Hungary until 1918. Even so Hungary had fought a very small border armed clash with the Slovaks on the 21st of March 1939 and annexed Ruthenia on 18th March 1939, so the threat from Hungary was still present and necessitated close ties with Germany.

Monsignor Jozef Tiso set up a one-party state with a party militia called the Hlinka Guards.

Slovakia was allowed to retain her own army (while I believe all the Czech formations of the Czechoslovakian army which had been stationed in her territory were expelled) and inherited the Czechoslovakian equipment stored within her borders.

Slovakia participated in the invasion of Poland along with Germany and occupied certain Polish territories which the Slovakians had claimed. The best formation that the Slovaks fielded was the ad-hoc ‚‚ā¨ňúMobile Brigade‚‚ā¨ô which consisted of a tank, motorised infantry, artillery and engineer battalions and served on the Ostfront until 1943.

There was a partisan uprising of Slovakians against the Axis in late August 1944 which was premature from the army's point of view as the Germans were able to diasrm the two Slovakian field divisions.

Then the Red Army moved into the area and occupied it between September 1944 and 29 April 1945 along with the 1st and 4th Rumanian armies.

Number of fighters for both sides were very similar .. and sometimes RAF could concentrate bigger forces on same location..though they had to concentrate on engaging the bombers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
