Buzz,
I thought you liked P-51 mustangs.
By the way,you did'nt say "which FW-190".

You're not having fun 'till they dial...911!

XyZspineZyX
07-05-2003, 10:39 PM
fw-190 is a more interesting plane to look at than the mustang. fw is about my fav. plane along with corsair. BUT the fw is not a better b an z plane than the 109. not in FB. not in janes ww2 fighters and not in real life. the fw was best at medium altitudes...8 to 15 thousand feet . in that range it could hold its own vs anyone. carguy.....admit it...... P.S. sadly Robert Taylor doesnt have much in the way of good fw prints...tons of 109s though. and yes ive seen all his prints i own greycap leader with 30 sigs and knights of the eastern front which has the top six german aces of all time signing it. hartmann rall krupinski hrabak steinhoff ihlefeld

I'm not an historian, but it seems that the 190's dive acceleration should be better than the 109's. And a Dora should at least match a K4 in a zoom climb. But hey, as I said I'm no historian. However, it's easy to get addicted to the 190! Let's see what the patch brings!/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

surveyor,

To be honest. I've only been DF the 190. I'm goingto get into ground attacks soon, and will have to learn about what loadouts to use.

Buzzard,

I like the Dora the best, but only by a little. I'm now looking forward to the Ta152 too.

btw.. I still love the P-51. It will always have a place in my heart. Right next to the Fw../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I'm a die-hard 109 flyer but the 190 to me represents a challenge and longer learning curve than most planes. I like that. I've been trying to get proficient at it for over a year now. Which variants? I dunno. The Dora is cool but the A4, 5 and 8 are interesting too...

I flew FW A-8 excluse in IL-2 but with the uber planes in FB online the A-8 is dead meat.

Even in our LW squad JG/51 Moulders we fly mostly BF planes-although I still want to fly the FW.

IN forgotten wars loading a FW 190 for loadout is usually an SC500 to hit tanks and trains.

But I would rather fly a JU88 with one sc 250 and 3 sc50s with a hohen to cover.

I prefer the FW-190A9 over the Dora, it seems to have more speed and the Mk-108's are a must.

But like Fenna, I'll transfer for the last time when the Tempest comes calling.

And I love how fun it is to blast through a formation of Pe-8s. I did in QMB, with 12 Pe-8s, 4 fw190 d9 and 3 bf109-k4. Nothing left exept 4 fw190 d9s. Those gunners are dern snipers I tells ya.

I more or less have this too. I can set the A-8 down smooth as silk (without seeing the runway. This is sort of hard, but it gives landing the FW's another "dimension"), but when I try to land the D9 I pull the nose up over the runway about a mile out. This makes me unable to see the runway, but that's not the real problem. Where I could set down the A8 fine the D9 bumps and jumps over the runway more. You have to set it down VERY gently.

Well i have been mostly flying Red to learn about these fascinating little workhorses. But i have to admit the first thing I do when taking up a new aircraft type is see how she rolls. i just feel happy rolling around this way & that & I feel like I'm really flying. S as much as I've come to respect my sturdy Yak9T I have to confess to frolicking amongst the clouds with a Butcherbird evey now & again.

i flew the Dora9 online once or twice & she was very graceful & my boom & zoom -while lacking any real BOOM, was a complete joy, & I felt perfectly safe from the enemy.

Off line I've taken up the ruggeg looking A9 & the more nimble A5. The only problem with the 190 is it's so fun to fly I can't seem to get into killing other folks with it.

Oh & unlike most planes you can score good hits at 3-400 meters (off-line)because of the volume of fire of the four cannon models.

Still i believe the La5fn can outrun the contemporary A5 can't she ? In this case you do have to be careful to keep an excape route open.

Waltermitty, why do you think the Dora is better than the 190A-9? I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just curious as to what your comparison between the two is. I think the Dora certainly handles alot better, but the A-9 seems faster to me (maybe I am wrong) and with MK-108's in the wings gives you unmatched, one-pass killing capability with seemingly little effect on handling. Te Dora climbs better (I think), but the A-9 climbs pretty well, better than the other A series by a decent margin as it should. I appreciate the Dora's better handling ability but when I'm zooming around making gentle turns and keeping my speed up and making firing passes, then the A-9's firepower becomes more important. Actually, now that I think about it, against most planes including Yaks I would prefer the A-9's firepower, but if I was mixing it up with a bunch of Lavochkins I think I would rather have the Dora with its superior handling.

I can't stand the 190. I fly the P-39 and have for about a year.

BUZZ the dora comes in for landings like a rocket. you need to cut power to zero and set prop pitch to 100 percent on the 44 dora. then when it gets below 450 kick the flaps all the way to landing and open the radiator to full open. kick down the gear below 350 for extra slow down and with all that you should slow down fast enough. be VERY close to the ground at this point since you will quickly reach stall speeds and touch down. immediately shut off engine and fire ALL guns to help slow you down. cuz you never know when an idiot will come in an strafe you as your rolling on the runway. this is the quickest method of decelerating for landings. just something i learned since i normally only die on landings...except for my horrible habit or ramming all the time...i extended my cannons range of convergence to help negate this

.

Trick is to come at exactly 180 kph with 2 notches of flaps....
make a smooth flare and let it bleed at exactly 1 meter, once you see its coming down add a third nocth of flaps... you will make beautiful 3 point landings like that, it will make a greaser soft as a virgins kiss.

never let it go down 170 kph or it will grab u by the nads and make you die.( stall clean is 164kph)

Sorry for not reading this whole thread, but the 190 has one of the most beautifully rendered cockpits in FB. I know, it's been said before.

Cheers,
Mike
