Basically, I bought Pacific Fighters on a whim: wanted a quick "Zero-fix" and had $40 to blow. Well, now that I've realized how much fun flying a legitimate sim is, I want it all. So, what do I purchase, the original Il-2, Il-2 FB, the expansions? Any thoughts/sentiments are appreciated. Thanks!

Ahh, yes "legitmate sim". That's what got me hooked too.

You'll have 200+ people telling you to buy the Forgotten Battles: Gold Pack.

That's what happened to me: shopping for my kids, picked up the original IL2 in a discount bin for $20 - next thing I knew I was hooked.
You'll need to think about flight hardware:
1. Joystick or HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) Saitek X45 is my recommendation.
2. Track IR3 Pro - allows free head movement in cockpit.Track IR Web site (http://www.naturalpoint.com)
Congratulations - you've embarked on an exciting journey.
