If any of you are oldschool fans of the Thief games for PC then this is your topic! The first game back in the late 90's was sublime. As was the second. Unfortunately they never really made it to mass market appeal. Sadly the third game Thief: Deadly Shadows also didn't sell enough and Ionstorm studios was forced to shut down.

There are some similarities between Assasin's Creed and Thief. Like sneaking around, completing objectives, and escaping. I look foward to playing Assasin's Creed and hope it will have some of the same gameplay elements of the Thief games http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

What makes you think Assassin's succeed where Thief didn't?

I found Thief: Deadly Shadows incredibly easy compared to the first ones...

And,personally,I don't think you can compare these two games. The concept itself is different.
In Thief, you are a master thief and as a good thief, it is advised to avoid confrontations with enemies and steal all the loot.
In Assassin's Creed, you are an assassin,a killer. You must kill people and this is the objective.

Even stealth-wise,the games are different. In Thief you have to use the shadows to pass by unnoticed. So far,I didn't see many shadows in all the Assassin's Creed pictures and videos. You have to blend in the crowds instead, more as in Hitman.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

^ Gameplay yes..

Unstop4ever comes up with this statement because they look the same..

I wouldn't know about that though..

However AC is going to be very sandbox-like and you will have total controle.. free movement and lovely controles.. A good fighting system with an attack and defend system.. realistic movements and realistic happenings and kills and deaths and also the beautiful crowd system astonishes people... Beautiful environments that are 90% fully interactive considering jumping around and climbing etc etc... a lovely story with a man that has gone through alot with lots of scars and alot of hate.. very cool weapons that are advanced for those ages.. lovely graphics and animation.. assassinating scenes and great manouvres and tactics.. Ultimate thrilling action exciting and confronting you in every corner..

This game is going to be in one word..

''amazing''

Amazing yes, all I hope is that its better otimised than say, Oblivion, that you needed the bestest everything to make it work!
got any requirments for this yet?
I believe people make the connection between this and Theif, is beacuse you play a hooded guy, you have to say, the character looks very similare exept for colour. But I agree, gameplay is not the same. (is this going to be 3rd person or 1st person?) (or, if they are really creative, 2nd person, but I dont think so!!!)<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

So just going to rant about random things, ignore or read your choice http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

So just because I was a fan of the original Thief Series I just want to make mention of the fact that the true benefit of the Thief games was that it was highly supported by fans. They released the development tools, and even now you can find new levels. Some I have are even richer in detail then the original levels from the creators. Looking Glass Studios released Thief: The Dark Project and then Thief 2: The Metal Age. Both were produced by Edios. In the middle of creation of the third Thief Game, the company folded. It was a group of fans that got together to start the process of a new game. Soon one of the original designers of the Thief world joined.

I think that the problem with Thief: Deadly Shadows was it was decided to make it a game that you did not have to know the original games to play. Instead of basing it off of the storyline from Thief, Thief 2, and making it Thief 3. Also the advent of making it console enabled hurt it in some ways. I personally own it both on the PC and XBox and prefer the PC version because of the richness of detail, and the ability to update the content.

so anyway looking forward to AC, really do like games like this that are more skill then shooting.

I hope so too. Thief 1 and 2 are the Top games of all time for me. Thief 3 didn´t deliver, the devs had changed and they took something essential out.

But I guess it was a good thing, that Thief was not made for masses. Maybe ´cos that it was in fact so great. Elite games are for elite players, the mass will never understand Thief games. The mass just wants to blow things up and have another FPS with new graphics.

I, too, expect that AC has that greatness that Thief had. In-game footage looks promising.

...You mean there's actually other people out there that aren't just Halo fanboys? I can finally step outside my safehouse?

In all seriousness, I'm glad someone else understands overhyped. It's people like you that remind me maybe, just maybe, there's a future for gamers. I had lost all hope and assumed that we were a dying breed... Thank you for restoring my faith.
Unfortunately, I feel I must admit I've never played a Thief game before. I've never had the pleasure. So you'll have to excuse that, if you will.

That doesn't sound promissing, coming from a developper. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Thief 3 had some major problems, at least on the XBox version. I´m a hard core fan and player of Thief 1 & 2 games. The fatal mistakes in Thief 3 IMHO:

- No sword. The swordfight was, despite its simplicity, very entertaining part of Thief 1&2.
In Thief 3 sword was replaced by a dagger, and the combat suffered a lot and was not satisfying anymore.
- Framerate issues on the Xbox. Subtle movement is essential in a stealth game. Thief 3 framerate was not smooth at all on the Xbox.
- After Splinter Cell 3 the movement of the protagonist, Garret, felt too restricted, rough and simple. It seems that Altair is going to top even Sam Fisher, which is great.
- Some ugly and unrealistic effects on the graphics like regular arrows leaving a magical light trace to the air as they flew
- Inventory was not mission-specific anymore, and it was possible to save items for later missions. That leaded to a situation, where you have like a 100 health potions, making you virtually immortal.

Thief 3 COULD'VE been better. What I liked most about the first 2 games was the story and the gameplay. When Thief 3 came out it was like a step backward from the first 2 games. Graphics and physics-wise it was lot better than the first 2 games but not as what I expected it to be. The cutscenes were a big disappointment compared to the first two games and there were also a lot of bug issues with the game.

I'm just hoping they don't mess up with Assassin's Creed. So far from what we're shown the game looks awesome. I hope that goes the same for when we actually play it

Can't be, there was a limit to all items. Can't remember the exact number though, but it were less and less items on higher difficulties.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I have played all of the Thief games and i loved all of them.

I believe Assassin's Creed will be more so along the lines of walking the same path but through different eyes.

You'll be hiding in the shadows, running, but this time instead of trying to gain the most amount of loot, You'll be trying to get in, evaluate the situation. Kill the target and escaping.

It will be just as fun if not more fun than the Thief series i believe. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I hope that Ubisoft montreal will put some elements of thief in the game, Like stealing and selling at fences and stuff. That if you sell your stolen goods elsewhere they will report you and you will get killed or something. And I hope that you can enter more buildings in AC than in thief. Thief sucked at that view, the city was too small and too less buildings where interactive.... keep up the good work with AC
