It's an old one but reading up on the 109 hit a thorn in my side. PF has a 109Z - a fighter that had only a single prototype built which never flew and was bombed in 1945 - WHY is it in the sim??? We also have other rubbish that never really saw action, and the ridiculous

You can have all those in game if you work good and fast. Go buy 3D MAX and start modeling.

Here's a link to buy it:

It'll be years before we get the lanc, mozzy and friends, I just hope the 1c have the sense not to decide to put in the he-163 before putting in the key AC.

Its an Eastern Front game with a Pacific Addon.

The Spitfire, Gotha, Tempest etc are only there becasue Gibbage and some other talented people sat down and modelled them, then passed hte 3d models to Oleg.

If you want to do the same for Battle Of Britain series (you are too late for IL2 series), then get to work.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Hi Jerry

I'll go one by one:

" PF has a 109Z - a fighter that had only a single prototype built which never flew and was bombed in 1945 - WHY is it in the sim???"

It's in the sim because as mentioned, a talented artist and modeller made it. Many players still cling to the idea that there is a list of planes that these talented modellers and artists can model, and that this list encompasses every plane in WWII, and that the list is used to assign modellers and artists aircraft to make for the sim, based on relevance and importance

Unfortunately it's not so. It's also thought that when a plane like the 109Z is made, it "bumps" another plane off the sim. This is also not so

" We also have other rubbish that never really saw action, and the ridiculous focus on the 1946 addin where developers make up the flight/damage modeling as they go along yet we have never got to see late spits, Lancs and countless other MAJOR PLAYERS in the european ToW. Why rant?"

Quite. Why rant indeed. Listen jerry, you don't understand. the add-on was made with this 'rubbish' as you call it because the developers (not 1C:Maddox Games) got enough feedback to beleive that this was wanted content, and it excited them enough to do it. Again, '46 is not on some kind of "importance list" that bumped say, the Lancaster off the charts, ok? Also, '46 is LOTS more than just a planeset that you don't like. perhaps you don't care for the subject matter; I am not the biggest fan of '46, but then again, what I want is CBI content. But will I enjoy '46? Yes of course. As I say, '46 gives capability for more than just a new planeset

" Because even when Storm of War comes out in a whole years time it'll be 1940 and there won't be anything later than that in it! "

Incorrect. It has been made clear many many times that "BoB" is "Storm of War:Battle of Britain", and that it will be the first sim in a series, in the same manner as Il2 Sturmovik:Forgotten Battles. Some players do not understand this, but it is so. "BoB" also will simply be the first installment; this does not mean that any content before the Battle of Britain will not be included

You are operating under a few misconceptions in my opinion http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Quite simply.....Anything that came after 3.0 was brought up to what was sold is quite simply "gravy".......We were supposed to get nothing more, yet look at the tremendous amount of extra's we have....

So, considering that......and most of it free, I fail to see where we lost out. In fact, if you look over most of the free "patches" they were really add-ons......We have it pretty darn good, and simply don't have a right to complain.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Remember...the work required to make a 109Z work in the game is pretty small compared to a whole new plane. The 109Z is, after all, just a pair of 109s put together. No need for an all new cockpit and barely and changes required externally except to merge the meshes and remap the UV to encompass both sides.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I hear you...it'd be perfect for the Normandy map. The trouble is that the external would have to be significantly re-worked to make the Tempest into a Typhoon (I asked about that way back when trying to get two in one shot). There are a fair number of differences between the two despite the external similarity. The cockpit is a fair bit different as well...especially with a mounted gunsight. Some of its the same mind you.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

What exactly is a "Griffin"? Rolls-Royce made a rather interesting engine called the Griffon which was fitted to a variety of aeroplanes, not least of which was the Spitfire, but as to this "Griffin" of which you speak I must admit total ignorance...

AFAIK we have a perfectly flyable Mosquito FB.VI in the game...

What is the He-163 of which you speak? I know that we're getting a nice collection of He-162s, but again, my ignorance is total when it comes to this He-163 of which you speak.

[/sarcasm]

Why is it that so many of these "accuracy*" complaints are made without due regard to accuracy? Is it some kind of Freudian thing associated with the projection of one's own issues onto others, or what? Thoughts anyone?

If I sound grumpy, that's because some morons managed to set off the fire alarm in my block at 0300Z and I am now unable to sleep, having previously elected to have an early night. Irony is a wonderful thing...

*be it accuracy of planeset, performance, stability & control or whatever...

Naa...I had thought Gibbage was having trouble with the poly counts and the complex structure of the PBY. Its tricky to do these planes...and the PBY is fairly complex to model as its a fairly wide open aircraft.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I definitely want the Firefly. Great aircraft and piece of engineering and took part in one of the Royal Navy's greatest series of raids against Japanese oil refineries in 1944/1945 as well as participating in the raids that ended up sinking the Tirpitz.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Maybe you can find them from some flight simulators, but this is a Game. Err...ok, a war simulator.
The more you have so called planes, the more you know FM is a joke. Thus '46, no worries about facts.
As for 109Z maybe in some moment of the past, majority of forum wanted Z badly. Majority is the market and thus telling how things should be in a game.

On a similar note:

FRENCH EAGLES, SOVIET HEROES - John Clarke - (2/10) It is hard to know what score to give this book on the Normandie-Niemen Regiment/Groupe, given that it is the most detailed work in english. Everything else being equal, it would have got 8/10, containing as it does detailed descripions of pilot life in the Soviet Union, missions flown, successes and failures etc.
However, and this is a huge "however", the writing is so atrocious that the author's note of thanks to his translator and editor must be a joke. I would not have been surprised if the whole thing had been put through an automatic translation program and then a sentence order randomiser. It really is that bad. Non sequitur follows non sequitur. The author has the same facility of phrase and eloquence of expression that I would display in Amharic or Korean. It's like wading neck-deep through treacle, uphill. It would make a good proof-reading exam paper but fails utterly otherwise. The best thing that can be said for it is that it takes four days to read where one would ordinarily have sufficed.
