AFAIC a sim would have to be substantially better than FB 3.0 for me to even put it on my HD. By substantially I mean have better graphics.... better AI..... better FMs/DMs better support...... Hmmmmmmm it would have to be 1Cs BoB I guess because I dont see anyone even coming close to this. It does look good though....... if I could fly those looks I guess Id buy it.

It will have online plane btw, check out their forums. It looks very promising http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'll probably buy it. The TrackIR 6 degree head movement should be a nice improvement with SA. I hope Oleg incorperates similar capability.

bearcat, these guys are saying that the ai is way better than what we have seen before (yes, I have to see it to believe it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ), and for that reason, they are really pushing this thing for the offline experience. I'll probably give it a whirl, although I suspect it will wind up next to all the other flight sim coasters that I own.

Yes - they are looking into making online play available, even then it will be a far-cry from what we already have... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

But I'll probably try it anyway http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif although I doubt it will take the place of FB/BoB http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The movie (granted an old one) didn't impress me much... And why is there no new movie yet showing what it can do NOW ? hmmm

I didn't see any recent screenshots either - now that realy makes me wonder...

And the flyable planes :

Spitfire Mk IA
Hurricane Mk IA
Bf109 E-4
Bf110 C-4
Ju87 B-2
Ju88 A-1 (gunners)
He111 H-3 (gunners)
Do17 Z-2 (gunners)

Is this game a sim? V1 was more of a wargame wasn't it?

I really liked Rowans Flying corp and was tempted by this first time round but got into IL2.
Real crunch against it is suggested price of 35
which looks really expensive for a game that was pretty much open sourced and developed by the community. You can pick up rowans BOB for under 5 on e-bay and patch it up on the web to near this so unless price is more realistic cant see me trying it.

I believe our BoB will have Flyable Fiats CR.42 and G.50 -- hopefully Flyable SM.79 3-engine bomber too. Judging by Xanty's FB CR.42, the new BoB CR.42 is going to...can't think of any words to describe the possibilities -- I used them all on Xanty's cockpit already (especially the cockpit lights at sunset).

Better, 3rd Party work directly with Maddox to add whole new Theaters. France and Poland at first. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I'll definitely give it a whirl.

Be something to tide me over until the "real" BoB comes out http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes I've seen this a week or two ago. So long as the offline play is enjoyable, I may consider it. Plus the 6DoF might be enough to tempt me to buy the TIR setup.

Those Stukas look like they're getting ready to plow into the channel. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

The AI in Rowan's BoB is nothing to write home about, so I hope it improves. Once you work out the behaviour of the AI you can shoot it down in droves (certainly those Stukas). The AI is the same quality as in FB I'd say. It's still the AI in EAW that impresses me, given its age. But again some of the routines are canned. But I've said it before; if a game developer produces great, adaptive AI, they'll be whisked away to some government lab shortly afterwards :-)

"AFAIC a sim would have to be substantially better than FB 3.0 for me to even put it on my HD. "

It if offers large numbers of planes in the air like the original and EAW but has the visual quality of FB and decent FMs then I'll probably buy it if it's around 25 as a stop-gap until BoB. Not that'll have the time to fly two sims, though.. so maybe it's not a good investment!

I think Rowan's latest looks interesting and shows the WW2 flight sim market is not a one horse race yet, conmpetition is a good thing.

I was reading the list of features and noticed the developers are trying to cater to some of the things that at the edge of or just beyond the capabilities of the IL-2 series:

Battle of Britain II: Wings of Victory:

In-Game Features:

Clickable cockpits for the ultimate flying experience

Realistic starting procedures via mouse

Lift your head for a more, over-the-nose view

Lean out the window while taxiing

Experience epic battles with hundreds of aircraft in the air

Building storm fronts with towering storm heads

Computer piloted airplanes fly with the same performance and flight characteristics the player flies with, for a precise, historically accurate offline experience

"RealPilot" Artificial Intelligence Technology means enemy aircraft have the same limitations the player has

Both the player and the enemy can use the clouds for safety and cover

Enemy aircraft have the same characteristics and performance as the player's aircraft, including actual joystick movements

Authentic engine sounds and behavior, inside and out

Open the canopy and hear the difference

One to watch, be sure http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I do know Scott and Shockwave will do all they can to make it as good as it can be. It might not be quite up to the standards we have from Oleg, but it'll be pretty darned close.

Shockwave, you understand, has to use the engine Rowan used, so that will be a big difference. Just like the new B17 they're working on has to use the Wayward Design game engine. Now if the 2 of them could work together someday... imagine what they could produce. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

A little competition for Oleg will only make his product better and us happier.... I think to some of the new things that are getting released in this series while a few glaring problems still exist and it is this competition that will help motivate Oleg to improve on an already great game.

I am certain I'll buy it and I'll hope that it is better than FB/AEP/PF. I love this sim, but I am frustrated in certain aspects and I'm looking forward to the release.
