If we every go to this category, I would like to propose myself for the first award.
Let me set the scene, I've moved up to a Type IX, a total of 15 patrols and over 300K tons on the books, first trip to the East Coast of the US. On the way I stumble on a convoy that is going to cross my bows at almost a perfect 90 degrees....I fire my four bow tubes, get four hits, a T-2, T-3 and two C-3's. As I swing around to get the stern tubes lined up, I see a transport break away from the convoy, I can't believe my eyes, this guy is going to line himself up with my stern tubes perfectly. I fire both and get two more hits. I take a quick look around, all five ships are on fire, they are either stopped or going real slow.
An escort I hadn't seen (think he was behind one of the other ships) makes a run at me, I start going deep, he drops a full spread and rocks my world. Luckily, most of the spare crew was in the DC party and I get the flooding under control pretty quick, hull down to 61% but no vital equipment out.
I elect to put my rudder hard over, go deep and make a big lazy circle while I complete repairs and reload tubes. I have plenty of torps left, this was my first contact, and the weather looks calm enough for the deck gun if necessary, life is good. By the way, the escort must have thought he nailed me with his pass because he took off after the convoy.
Well, I figure I have at least 30-minutes before the tubes are loaded, looks like a good time to get a cup of coffee.

I come back to "Mission Ended, Boat destroyed by pressure". I obviously went too deep for the damaged hull, if I had stayed at the computer I'm sure I would have been able to correct the initial flooding, but Noooooooooooooooo.

You gotta watch the depth that you take while diving with hull damage.

I was down to 15% after a gun duel with a Black Swan Sloop and a J-Class DD. When I got to 25m depth, the "You're a Stupid U-boat Skipper" screen appeared and thus ended my 2nd career.

Like you, I walked away once. As my boat was entering Keiv and came back and my boat was
smashing itself head on against the concrete
walls pens. Taught me a lesson. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I wouldnt have the cojones to take on a
blackswan with my deck gun, let alone, it and a
J-class at same time!

You are not 'Robinson Crusoe' on this, we've all done it. I did it on my first academy exam, off for a coffee and a quick pee only to find that I should have paused the game instead of just walking off.
Main point, I learnt to use my pause button and to take nothing for granted, what did you learn? You are not stupid, as I said, we've all done it, at least you admitted it

I just bought the game and was testing the limitiations of the game physics. I didn't last 2 minutes in the gun battle.

I learned this lesson the hard way too, ended several careers this way. Now the only reason I move my butt is to get a bowl of corn flakes while my little bro watches the screen for contacts. He'll yell WARSHIP SPOTTED MEDIUM RANGE and I come running while spilling everything and screaming hit pause, hit pause! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I take on ships with only one deck gun, like flower corvettes, warily. If it's got more large guns than me, I ain't trying to sink it with the Deck Gun. THe gun will be a temporary solution to get in those last few torps before going below to escape, etc... I don't like to risk myself too much, but when their focus is off me occasionally I'll surface, fire a shot, and submerge again.

That's odd. I once surfaced in the middle of a Battleship Task force with a very large screen of DD's. I thought that I would be dead in sec's. But I sailed around the convoy for more then 15 minuts. And the BB were shooting at me with there MAIN GUNS! The stock, non-modded damage system is one of the weakest points of this game. I play on 100% btw.

^^^this was not on a career if you think I am crazy^^^

If I come across one or two merchents with guns I usually just surface and order my gunners to shoot off the enemy's guns. While only getting hit myself minimaly.

The AI in my game, as I have found, CANNOT hold a set depth when you are moving very slow or stopped underwater. even when your hull is at 100%. I don't know why.

Well, it also depends on the starting year. I was in late 1943, and the AI gets a little bit more accurate as the war progresses... don't you agree?

Actually it was late in the war, I was playing the generated mission maker in multiplayer, on LAN by myself.

I was taking so many direct hits it was like one big explosion, but I didn't die for quiet a long time.

also What happens is something will get damaged and it will fix almost instantly. Decoy launcher damaged, Decoy Launcher ready, all in less then 1 second.

I think that a realistic damage system should be a top priority in a future Silent Hunter game, dont you.

wouldnt it be very difficult for a battleship to get her main guns on you if you were that close? i am thinking elevation issues and tracking.

The medal for stupidity should be mine this day - it was really well earned.

Lately I was obssessed with the idea of playing Carmageddon 2 on a Titanium powerbook - I figured it would play better with a 32MB card instead of 16MB on the iBook (unreliable pos with a non-functional lcd).

My only hassle was that the display resolution would not change in order to accomodate the game (256 colours in 640 by 480 pixels which the Tibbok would not accept). In an attempt to resolve the problem, I copied over the wrong system folder and voila - the Tibook will no longer start up - muahahahaaaaa.

And today happens to be iBooks bad day 'cos it won't start up (sometimes it does but not today - no sireeee).

After all that I decided to read the foreign news section of the paper while having a **** - only to discover it had been thrown away already...

Not my day today.
