View Full Version : Rogodin's Photoshop Tutorial.

Here she goes.

PS Tutorial

Open whatever screen you want through photoshop and begin with this-

Choose filter and put in the noise (uniform 2.5-3.5). Then use radial blur (zoom, best, 3-4). If you want to make two objects without blur then immediately make a duplicate copy of the original layer and then do all this blur I describe next ON the copied layer. Now you can use an eraser on the copy layer and erase the blur wherever you want. But remember after you do this you will need to flatten the layers. Then go to artistic under filters and choose 'film grain'. Under film grain turn off the grain slider and use only highlight area and Intensity (I vary these depending on how it looks-make the screen 25% to see the whole picture, so I usually use highlight are 1-2 and intensity 1-2 but it depends on how grainy it is (clouds can do strange things with this).

I then use standard quick fix to correct color, lighting, and the other things standard. But with a shot comprising vivid sunlight I use <filter-render-lighting effects-and then spotlight and adjust everything to make it look realistic-and if I want a custom lens flare [I have lens flares turned off in the FB conif.ini file) I use <filter-render-lens-flare.

Now here is the hue/saturation trick. After all of the above is done I create a new adjustment layer-hue /saturation, and name it whatever you'd like or just leave it the original name. Now at the next screen where you have adjustment sliders click the "colorize" box. Now this can vary a little but not much-I move the hue slider very close to the left, saturation slider just about to the middle but mostly a little to the left of center, and lightness in the middle. What I try to do is make it look yellower than a black and white photo. Once this is done you will have your new layer up in the layers tab. I now go and adjust opacity to my liking (I usually leave it on normal and adjust opacity to about 25%, but a lot depends on the shot). I usually make a few more copies of this layer and choose hard light, soft light, or color burn under the drop down and adjust the opacity as needed. What you are aiming for is up to you and as such you will need to experiement with all of these settings to find what you like.

This is almost finished and the only other thing is making borders and custom symbols within the screen. I will leave this for another time as I need to post this before work!

Good luck everyone!

somehow a piece was cut out from the second paragraph.

Here is the missing piece-

"But with a shot comprising vivid sunlight I use <filter-render-lighting effects-and then spotlight and adjust everything to make it look realistic-and if I want a custom lens flare [I have lens flares turned off in the FB conif.ini file) I use <filter-render-lens-flare."

Rogodin, I'm a Photoshop n00b, and was unable to determine how to go about this step. Could you clarify that bit more for my slow mind? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Also, on your sig, there is a lack of any jagged edges, which looks very nice. Did you resize that image, or use an additional blur tool?

Thanks.

Hey Rogo! Nice tutorial!

Just have a small question. You write:

-I move the hue slider very close to the left

Which value (the number) do you use? I just don't get the color like in your pics. Very close to the left it gets red.

I'm also a bit troubled because I have German Photoshop Elements (btw do u use 1.0 or 2.0?) and the names for the filters are quite different /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Create a new layer of gradient and select black and white and then adjust opacity for the best effect, this is used immediately after the hue/sat colorize layers, and use normal.

Time for another bump. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Get something good back on Page 1. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Question: You state "I then use standard quick fix to correct color, lighting, and the other things standard. " Then later on down the thread you put "Once the file you want is opened go to enhance-quick fix-brightness do auto contrast-color correction do auto color-Focus do focus and blur both."

I'm using v5.0 and there is no sign of these things. I'm not sure if you are using shorthand or a filter-addon or what. Please advise. What is this you are saying/referring to and where.

Love the work. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

"quick fix" is a seperate drop down under enchancements in photoshop elements 2.0.

under quick fix is-

color correction
brightness contrast
blur
focus
lighting

there is an auto and manual option for each one of those listed above.

I use the auto on all and then do my real tweaking!

thanks owl

HERE IS NEW FILTER I'VE BEEN USING!

After I use Hue/Sat layers I create a new gradient layer and choose greyscale (black and white) and then adjust the opacity and place over the hue/sat layers-gives it that diminished color look even easier /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
