Mentally, I'm sold on buying TrackIR. However, I want to hear what you guys have to say about it regarding how well it works with IL-2 1946, and how well it works with an average or below average system. In other words, I don't want to buy it if it isn't going to work with myn not-exactly-up-to-date-system.

Your thoughts and opinions are appreciated in advancehttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

No horror stories like: "my PC is only 2 years old and the thing doesn't work"?

Everyone in our group has it. Its considered essential flight gear right along with hotas and rudders. Only one guy that doesn't have it, and he's using camtopam or something with his webcam till he saves up enough for it.
Its run on all various speeds of systems without issue.
All I can say is if you don't have it.. you are at a disadvantage.
If mine were to break today, I wouldn't fly again until a replacement came in.

Do yourself a favor, and just go get the thing.

OK, OK...I'm convinced.

I just wanted to hear more than what I saw in the video demo on youtube. Can't just walk out and buy it, though. No distributors in this part of Australia...will have to be mail order.

Cheers!

Especially TIR4. I cant speak for TIR3. TIR2 is ... good... but it had issues at leats for me. TIR4? Fantastic. I have finally gotten to the point where I really don't fight as well without it.

I'll have to tell yas... Coordination is my weakness. Trying to control stick with left hand, and see around with mouse with right is downright difficult. Then there's using the keyboard for other things....usually right-hand work.

If I had a dollor for every time I found nearby enemies with either the map or padlock, I'd be rich.

pro - it's the best darn gadget you can buy

con - you will never be able to fly without it once you are hooked

I can do pretty well with the Joystick and the mouse, i use the joy in my right and the mouse with my left hand, only the zoom is where i have to put my hands on the keyboard, but i almost never use it, i can do well, however, im about to get trackIr4 not just to play IL2 but to also play battlefield 2 (where i saw the biggest advantage because im a chopper pilot right there) so i can spot the enemies faster.

i think the cons is that you must wear a cap or something on your head to keep the thing steady.

A 5 year old computer (2.26ghz) with TIR 3 pro and it works excellent. It´s akward in the beggining but after a week or so it will become natural.

In fact, I do have one. The pc I'm using at the moment is 6 years old, and once I had to unplug and replug the usb connector for my suddenly unrecognised TIR3 Pro to work. It was more than 6 months ago, but I still think about it a lot.

I will recommend it, though. Stupidly expensive toy, but fantastic in use, and due to get better with 6dof in BoB.

Im using an 'old' TIR3 with vector expansion (hat clip ).I got it on Ebay for buttons....I had a few problems mostly 'flickering' especially on a sunny ,bright day.The sun issue is fixed by increasing Light Filtering and do you know what the main problem was?!The thin film of dust n gunk that built up on both the units 'window' and the reflective clip reflectors'....
In conclusion TIR is great but if the bucks are tight dont feel that the TIR3 or even 2 by all accounts is obsolete rubbish.
Buy it now ....anyone who has it would happily downgrade their graphics card to repurchase one if they had to myself included.

Once it is set up properly and you become accustomed to it, the great thing is that you completely forget about it. It's there and doing a fantastic job, but you are completely unaware that you are continually operating it. It becomes as natural as any other movement you might make in life.
There aren't really any cons that I can think of other than I have gone out of the house with my hat clip on once.

I have used it some, but I get dizzy sometimes using it. Just not used to the screen moving when I look away from the monitor for a sec. I have a key programmed on my X52 to enable/disable Trackir. That helps, so if I'm just cruising along or something, I can toggle it off.

TrackIR4 was the best thing i buy in 2004, i import to Brazil and payed US$255 but worth much more, was much better than i was waiting.
Ingrease the realistic sensation, help to find and down all my poor oponents, lol.
