I have AEP 2.0 (Gold Pack) installed to the following directory:
C:/Games/IL2/
I would like to patch up to 2.04.
Oh, yeah. I don't have Pac Fighters!!!
Anyway, the warning says:

The installation defaults to C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles
Soooo, I'm screwed, eh? I'll need:
(1)About a zillion years to download 128Mb (2.01+2.04) of patches via dial-up.
(2)Backup selected missions, skins, and...what?...conf.ini...anything else? (At the minimum I would want to write down my hardware settings).
(3)Uninstall FB+AEP. (This is a two-step uninstall)
(4)Reinstall FB+AEP v2.0 to the default directory.
(5)Execute patch 2.01.
(6)Restart.
(7)Execute Patch 2.04.
(8)Restart.
(9)Apply Tylenol and Vodka liberally.
(10)Move my saved files into the correct folders.
(Optional)(11)Re-create my preferred directory tree (C:/Games/IL2/).
(Optional)(12)Cut-n-Paste hundreds of files from:
C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles
To:
C:/Games/IL2/
and pray that I don't screw up the cut-n-paste or miss a hidden file.
...
Is there no other way? It would be more fun to get kicked in the groin.
Repeatadly. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Can I let the patches execute to
C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles/
(Which doesn't exist at the moment)
and then cut-n-paste thosefiles to where I need them? Would that work?

My current v2.0 is 12,761 files, 402 folders.
Urgh. This is terrible. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

Yes, it would.

But, the patch does default to a specifice folder, but you can change this:

So, no problem!

(Or just make a complete backup copy of that Games/IL2 folder first, just to be safe)

Have Fun!

Oh, yeah. Go get Pac Fighters!!!

The obvious question is: "Why did you do that?" Forgotten Battles creates a separate folder by default. AEP (and PF 'merged' as well) go to that same folder, which is "Ubi Soft/IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles." The folder you're looking at is for the original IL-2 Sturmovik game. If anything, your install of FB/AEP might have overwritten some files from original IL-2 ... does original IL-2 still launch?

If you're able to launch "Forgotten Battles" and AEP v2.0 without problem, then directing the patches to the IL-2 folder shouldn't be a problem. Just do as FoolTrottel says.

Yes. Or have a kind soul put the patches on CD-R for you. You could also 'merge' Pacific Fighters to automatically get the 2.01/2.04 upgrades ... but then you'll need the PF patches. Vicious cycle it is. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Try directing the patch to current game folder first. Might as well, right? Or you could rename the game folder to "IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles" and then run the patches. I made a clone of AEP 2.04 and renamed it before applying the PF game to the original copy, and the clone copy (v2.04) works fine plus connects to multiplay. You could always rename your folder back to "IL-2" after the patches are installed if you're afraid of registry issues, I think.

Yes. I recently dumped the PF 3.03m, 3.04m, 4.01m and 4.02m to my desktop into pre-made folders. Do that if you want and drag the contents over to your game folder. That's all the patches do when executed; they replace files that already exist and add new ones that are introduced by the patches. All is as you need it to be in the patch; you should be able to dump both patches into the same folder if you want (but extract 2.01 first and then 2.04).

Woohoo! That's great news, guys! Oh man thank you thank you thank you! I was soooooo not looking forward to this. That little warning made it sound like the patch would stubbornly go only to that directory (I've seen executables launch without user interaction). I can handle it from here now that I know this.

Skycat, I don't have the original IL-2; went straight to FB+AEP Gold. Bought it just last month.

Pac Fighters, huh? I dunno. I'm having a lot of fun landing Brewsters and such.

Thanks again, guys. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Glad you got it sorted out.

I'm curious about "Gold" though ... did it install to "Games" and create that folder ("IL-2") by default, or did you do that on your own? I only ask because several people have posted lately with Gold install questions and I am wondering if it installs differently than individual FB and AEP.

Also I was only half right on the original IL-2 Sturmovik game's folder; by default it creates "Ubi Soft/IL-2 Sturmovik" as its directory. But that has nothing to do with your situation. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I told it to install there, to C:/games/IL2/
I created the /IL2/ subdirectory immediatly before the installation, and the installation was flawless. Worked great. Thanks again for the help, 2.01 just finished D/Ling. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
