Well, I know the Hurrican was used ALot in bob. So was the 109 and Stuka, if I'm not mistaken.

Type in Battle of Britain in google. It's enough reading for a week.

Yeah, the Defiant has 4 guns in the turret, no forward armament at all though.

Earlier E versions of the Messerschmitt 109 such as the E1 - 4 x Mgs, E3 - the 2 20mm were less effective FF cannons (E4's were FF/M) & different canopy. Maybe a few E2's with extra 20mm in the prop, but were rather rare, used with II/JG27? E5, E6 Recon versions. With the Bf 110, should see the C1, C2 & C3, similar to the C4, but missing armour plated crew protection. Basically C4 was comming into service at the time of the battle.

Will BoB be a full game, or an add-on/pay patch?

If the former, I wonder how 'modern' Oleg will allow this to become?

He already has plenty of late war machines to include - and he will need to make sales in the US!

Ditto that Airfix model. They made 16000 Ansons
pre war, during the war, and up to 1952. So my
weight of numbers we should get one! Mind you,
apart from colonial work, and some coastal command
work it was mostly a trainer for navigation and
air gunnery.

Blimey Painter, have you been stuck in a lift or something for last few days?

Yes, it is a brand new game with a brand new engine.
It will be completely separate from IL-2/FB, thus nothing from FB will be able to be included in it.
Oleg sees it as a launch point for further theatre of operations sims to follow.

Have a browse through the forums from Sunday onwards, it's all here. People happy, people disappointed, people whining, people making lists of what they hope is in it, and much much more.

Cheers!

Edit: Quite right RCAF401_Sly, there should definitely be a Walrus.

Fly the early Hurricane in FB. It's no joy against the 109E.

An interesting era for flying especially if they include some of the French planes. Just to add a few more planes to the list HE46 HS 126 and HS123. In 1940 the RAF did have some Tomahawks. I think the 1st ones just had two guns so did not see service in Europe. It would be nice to have a trainer Tiger Moth or Magister. The Avro Anson was still being used by the RAF in 1967 the figures for 18081940 show that a HE111 was destroyed by an Anson. The RAF also had the Auto Giro. Sea planes Lerwick(sinking pig),Stranraer and Scapa. Also some strange bombers still on the books B P Overstrand, HP Harrow, HP Heyford, Hawker Hart. For fighters they still had some Gauntlets and Demons.

I already smell some smoke.

What is needed is an exact timeframe for this "Battle of Britain", will it be the narrow British one, or the broad campaign of 40-41?

If it is the broad campaign from mid-40 to the spring of '41, than we can see a far wider spectrum of aircraft and units.

If the maps cover at least the whole of Britain and the coast of France, Belgium and the Netherlands, it can even cover the western campaign, The Low-Lands, Dunkirk and the Battle of France, again this would stretch the a/c set dramatically.

If BoB will ship as a narrow campaign, the British version lasting a couple of months, than Maddox will have to make a VERY good sim indeed, including FM, DM, AI and engine and campaign in order to stay interesting.

FB 1.5 (as in a graphics overhaul and some extra features) will be quickly boring indeed.

Also there is a split between a/c types, or effective combat types that will be flyable.

If we take the broad BoB, we'd might see

Bf109E-1, 3, 4 and 7s, /B, /N and /Zs
we also might expect early F-1 and F-2s

that's potentially 9 different 109s in 1C's BOB

That's just one type of a/c.

Wahey!!

alas i have been stuck in a lift for the last week (well i've been ill and also my connection lead has been bust - but i just soldered it this morning)

so BoB eh? cool

it would be nice to include lowlands/french campaigns too - unless it's going to be a very different game altogether - i recall Oleg stating something about alot more ground activity in his future sims - so maybe this is it - the narrowness of a a BoB only theatre and small amount of planes is a trade off for increased realism on the ground before and after the flight - (and perhaps DM's of ground targets, perhaps also amount of planes in air) - no bad thing in my opinion /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Didn't count the F-0 since it was a pre-production batch, but by all counts if Maddox is going prototypes and pre-production a/c again /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
