I'll guess some flavour of a BF 109 wreckage

"Some" is the correct word. But that is not it.

At this stage in time, the only thing it resembles is scrap metal.

That piece at the top reminds me of the cowling of an Il-2.

If you only knew how wrong you are... After looking through this pile of junk we were able to restore the situation. I'll give you the results in a couple of days, if someone won't get a 95% guess.

Whatever it was, it was "terminated with extreme prejudice."

I don't see an Airplane there guys, despite what may be O2 bottles. I think it is a field gun of some sort. I shall work on it a bit.

It OBVIOUSLY was a P-39 at one point. The Drive shaft in the center of the wreckage kinda gives it away.

Why, it's obviously a tree that was viciously hit by a pile of scrap metal. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

No luck so far... Most of you are thinking in the right direction... But the 85% closenes goes to jarink... For best definition. It really used to be an aircraft... But what type?

I'm pretty sure that is my aircraft from my HL session last night.

Possibly German? Appears to be a Werke number on the item bottom right of screen.

Also, this item appears to be armour plate but asymetric in shape. Suggests a multi-crew aircraft?

Ju-88 ?

Good thread...got me thinking..which can be dangerous http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

The upper right portion looks like a part of a canopy rail or frame; makes me think p-51 or fw-190 maybe.

Since it's not a Bf-109, how about a Bf-110???

Is that chrome piece at the bottom left part of a landing gear strut?

bloblast

I see a Werknummer and assume to see a large part of the gear.
I would guess JU88.

Notice the huge steel shackle at the top left of the picture.
I am going to guess some type of light bomber.
Mayb an SBD or similar. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm saying it's about $130.00 at the scrap yard.

Wild guess Me 163 the bottles are compressed air for the wing cannon?

I'll bet 50 cents.

I've been trying to figure out what it is to no avail. At first I thought it was an FW-190. However, the top of the landing gear is wrong. The FW's landing gear was L-shaped.

I thought about the bf-109, but that was overruled because the upper part landing gear sheath of the bf-109 was a separate piece.

So, I have to think about which aircraft with a German Werke number would have gear that folded into the wing instead of a nacelle that wasn't a 109 or 190.

I woke up early this morning with this on my mind. I still can't guess what it is UNLESS its pieces from more than one aircraft.

Wow, a total strike out. Without the placards, I'd never have guessed! The bottles look like the ones fitted by the cannon and machine guns (compressed air?).

Fascinating. I had no idea old 110s were used for artillery observation. Wondered why it had a three-man crew before I saw that. Makes sense. When you do not have air superiority, you don't want to be observing in a Storch or Fw 189.
