View Full Version : Plane type when "S" pressed

Sir...

Many hosts play with limited icons and with the plane type showing when you press the "S" key even if you have ID only on the icons the other guy knows what you are flying and he can adjust tactics accordingly.

Is there any chance you might remove the plane type a player is flying when you press the "S" key?

Or maybe add another mp_dotrange command say some shape over the plane. Then icons could have COLOR and the shape.
This way, icons could be limited with no RANGE, no ID (so people do not go after a certain player), no TYPE.

But there would still be something visible to see for those that do not have huge monitor, the latest and greatest vid card and the older guys like myself.

Thanks,

MOH_Gumby

Well...if you're ok with icons, what's wrong with the PL Triangle and no other info? This can be done right now and seems to be what you're asking for.

Padlock triangle is the worst thing in the world. It totally distorts your ability to judge another plane's motion and orientation relative to your own plane at all but the shortest distances. Allowing us to have icons and padlock on without the padlock triange would be great. Just add it to the end of the icons settings command.

I also don't see any purpose to having plane type on the player list online. Would rather have a line indicating number of aircraft lost by player.

AK Davis you can already

1/disable the green triangle for ALL players if your host

2/disble the green triangle for yourself

Yes, I agree, it should be user selectable, or one team should not see an opposing team(s)' aircraft-to-player assignments (always).

Actually he's not padlock dependent but like me has minor carpal tunnel... I have track ir to reduce my usage AKD use padlock to reduce hand movement. I hope I'm not overstepping there AKD.

My lord! You guys use padlock! I've never done it, sure I occasionally use the external F6 view, but not often. When I look at the externals it's to see if I hit my ground target! You guys have to get used to flying the real way! The WW2 guys didn't have padlock, that's the way I figure anyway.

Pilots do have padlock. They can turn their head to follow a plane, and still know which way their plane is moving by knowning which way their chest is pointing. This is totally missing in sims. And the 'forward with padlock' is exactly like a pilot quickly glancing ahead, to avoid obstacles like the ground, and back to his/her main object of concern (bogie). I think padlock without triangles is as close as it gets to RL. The triangles let you know which target you are actually following if you locked onto one of a pair of targets in a close encounter, which is 'a good thing' but does distract a little from the 'feel' of really being there.

gents..

Didn't mean for this to turn into a discussion over padlock, just a suggestion to give us more options for icon settings, whether you like/dislike use or don't use them.

But I did get a kick out of the one post that says padlock is unreal but he uses externals. I don't think there were too many ww2 pilots that could stand on top of their cockpit and see all views like externals allow.

And now I am going to play the father/older brother "just you wait", I am 53 and probably have a few years on many guys playing this game, so just wait until you get "over the hill" and see if you start liking limited icons and padlock so you can find the bogs. Read somewhere that every 15 years your eyes lose half their ability to gather light.

No, of course not. I'm sure we're not the only ones either. People can take me at my word or not, but I only use padlock at close range (2-1.5km) and only on targets I've already spotted. Hopefully I'll have Track IR some day in the not to distant future. We'll see.

Please re-read what I wrote. I'm asking to have icons on, but no padlock triangle superimposed over the enemy aircraft. If there is a way to have the icons currently displayed, but not the padlock triange, please tell me how, because I've been trying to figure this out for awhile now.
