... makes for impossible dogfights. Well, IMO of course.
Whenever I get on the AI's tail, it doesn't take long before it executes this cobra like manouver, which makes it stop in mid air. Even at very high speeds the AI will simply pull the handbrake and go from 600km/h to 200km/h in mere seconds. This isn't something new, but I can't remember that it always was like this. Is it a limitation of the game engine or what?

I'm just curious.

Grateful for any reply! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I wonder about that too.

But also wonder about the AI's abillity to make a 180 degree (very sharp I might add) climbing turn after a head-on pass and still manage to catch you when all you did was pull up slowly to (try) and gain an altitude advantage.

AI hacks, be sure http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

It also has the ability to fly very slow and maintain altitude. If you try to stay on it's tail you will stall out as you are going too slow and if you try to avoid the stall you will overshoot the AI target.

Single Player is very frustrating, in fact I'm willing to say, that had I never played multiplayer, I don't think I would have gotten hooked on this game.

Right now I no longer have broadband and in Australia there are no popular 56k friendly servers maybe once in a while you can get a game but very rarely and with few people. So I'm stuck with SP and I hardly play the game anymore because of that.

I used to play everyday but now I just play once or twice a week and only QMB because the generated missions just don't do it for me.

Check out the AI Yaks. They do an instant high speed 180 with no E-bleed. Then try flying it youself, poor elevator response at high speed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif

to me , Yak-3 & Zeros fight the hardest when controlled by AI

The same with the Zero's, as far as I can tell the AI does not have poor elevator responses at high speed and no black outs either.
Several times did I try a high speed dive in a Corsair or Hellcat and try to shake it off my 6 with high speed turns but them silly AI Zeke's just keep up without a problem.

The only good thing is that you can out run them at sea level and lure em back to your Carrier/Escort ships and they will blast em of your 6 in no time. (But that is rather boring but effective none the less and in some cases the only sulution since you can't outclimb, outdive or outfly em in a high speed fight anyway)

well yes the AI does many impossible thing. But it's been said that it either uses simplified FM (otherwise noone would have RIG to run all planes in a mission with full FM) and the second point is that AI is and won't be soon that clever as human is, so it has to compensate with some of those 'ubelievable' maneuvers... It is certainly more acceptable for me than to have AI flying full FM with all the limits trait always and to be able to get 10 kills in a mission. I would in fact want to see AI be even more competetive and 'cheat' a bit more to bring some challenge to me, that normaly human pilots bring. You ALWAYS have to take in account the present computing power limitations and it is not that simple to take in account all of them, as is graphics, AI, FM's, object counts and the resulting playability. I think that it is now well balanced and I admire Oleg for this very much.

(ohterwise I work in the field of AI, so I know how much computer resources it takes to run such AI routines and to program them)

I made that video ages ago and sent it to him http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Shoulda copywrited it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Anyway that was many patches ago. I don't think you'll see anything like that now.
The japanese planes can come around really fast, but it costs them - you just need to stay fast and go vertical - evading minimally so as not to lose speed while you are still in range. I'm not saying they are right or wrong - but I've not seen anything really bizarre in a long while.
