What we need for real future scalability is a server with "radii of influence" for all objects so that multiple servers (or parallel servers) can manage parts of the map plus some mechanism to transfer objects between servers (in trickle mode to avoid spawn lag type effects).

That would future-proof us against smaller computer performance increases in future and allow parallelism for multiple cores.

Plus 1C's ground war program could be integrated into the project - the future is global WW2 air/ground/sea on distributed servers!
