i want to fly the ki46 kai because it is a bomber killer it has a upward mounted (30mm??) cannon like the german schragemusik. that would be a great bomber killer you can just get right under the bomber and boom it goes down. it is fast to and has 2 foreward mounted 20mm cannon.

The upward firing guns (Schrage Musik in German service) will never work well in the game. They were used at night to sneak up on an unsuspecting bomber, to create a quiet nightime murder.

Now can you think why this will never work in game? Here's a clue when have you EVER been able to sneak up on an unsuspecting bomber?

well... in here, one of my fav killing ways, is to attack a bombers belly.... have you ever fight bombers?

Some bombers can be attacked from the underside, namely those that don't have guns that can protect that area. Otherwise, any attack is likely to bring damage to your plane.

Why fly a Ki-46 when you can fly the Ki-45 Toryu?

AI gunners make sneak attacks nonexistent. That's never stopped me though.

The oblique cannons could use a photo-electric cell to detect a bomber overhead because of a reduction of light available to the cell, due to the bomber's shadow

IIRC..

This WAS done during the war by an experimental Me-163 that had some upward firing mortars installed in the wing roots. It was tested against a giant canvass that was mounted on some poles on the ground. The canvas was shaped like a USAAF heavy bomber. The Me-163 flew beneath it on a test and the system worked perfectly. The test Me-163 flew in combat once, passed beneath a B-17 which was promptly blown to smitherines. (RIP the crew!)

Hmmm. May have been an RCAF Halifax that was downed.

...and this system was fully simulated in LucasArt's Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. If you went far enough into the German campaign to get THOSE, things were looking up (http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif).

I really miss the SWotL campaign system. It's still my favorite so far.

HBR..... the point is, we can't fly the Ki.46 because it's AI only and the Ki.45 isn't even in the sim so we can't fly that either. If you want to fly the Ki.45, you'll have to switch to CFS2- the Ki.45 is available as a community-developed download. But don't expect FB/PF quality!
