Does FB use SSE2? Also does it use hyperthreading? At simhqs review of the new P4s, the Intel chips seem to thoroughly spank the Athlons. Anyone with high end P4 setup want to comment?

The new Barton's are 400 FSB...the old 333 FSB was on even footing with the 533 FSB P4's.

The SimHQ results are suspect because the sim should be floating point intensive (equation based flight model, etc.) IL-2 results did match "performance ratings" but FB does not ==> in the review (see previous SimHQ Barton preview for IL2 results.) Also, Firing Squad got a much closer match up in FB when comparing the chips. I don't know what might be wrong with Bubba's numbers, they might be correct, but they certainly don't look right at first glance. Without the Firing Squad review I might blame it on a compiler optimized for the P4.

The question is, does FB use Hyperthreading> Yes it does, and that's why I use a 3.06 chip../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Doesn't help much though, because it is floating point limited. Hyperthreading doesn't help when the individual pipes are already fully loaded, in fact it hurts in some circumstances. Hence the improvement of only 1-3 FPS in FB with hyperthreading, and a DECREASE of 1 FPS in IL-2 which does not take advantage of hyperthreading.

HT helps keep heat down which is nice and processor runs at roughly 51% when checked at desktop. Overall performance is not much greater than an AMD. The sim hq review and firing squad seem a bit weird to me. I'll check soon with my bro-in-laws 3.06 vs my AMD system
