I got a Cougar Joystick for Christmas. I asked for it and was pleased to know I'm loved enough to receive one. But, Ive had a little time to toy w/ it and I've decided to return it to the store.

Here is why.
1. the microstick won't behave. I have confirmed this to be a hardware defect.

2. After reading about how cougars can go bad, and about the need expensive 'upgrades', I was nervous about getting the thing, but now I'm totally spooked.<form action="http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums" method="POST" name="VOTE">

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Stock Kitty's, when all the buttons work, are good sticks, not as good as a CH out the box but good. Modded Kitty's however are worth every, single, stinkin' penny. I'd return the stick, get one that works right, ride it for a few years, save my money, then get the Halls Sensor's mod and the Uber2 NXT from IJ. If you do these things you will thank me... trust me... give in to the dark side of the force!!!!

Pay bills? Pfew! Hire a hooka and live the Pretty Woman experience, you boring.

Or better, take the one who bought it out to dinner, and deserve being loved enough to receive a Cougar, you mean.

I advocate Immediate Gratification: if you shop around, you can find the complete suite of CH stick, throttle and pedals (I'm assuming that you don't have the USB CH pedals already) for the money spent on a Cougar that requires a great deal of modification and further expense to approach its potential.

cheers

Told ya all So many times............ I have one on my desk here I never use.... drool factor and all.... they are all hype and no pleasure....... true its metal, but so are my fillings, only they are made of a more durable material....... all the supposed replacement stick tops never materialised,

And to be honest, the "user Friendly Software that all crave to surpass" as They tell you is as user friendly as an undersize jockstrap, its a pain to use and even worse when it's needed...

It's also colder than my ex girlfriend to the touch and as responsive as a bad case of the piles.. I.E a pain in the arse...

modelled on the F16 stick.................. God help the US Military..

I've had my CH gear for over 3 years with almost daily use. Not one single issue and feels just as good as the day I unpacked it. No spikes, no centering issues, nothing.

CH Manager is awsome. The only thing I could ask CH for is some sort of FF stick, but as of right now they have no plans on making one.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Hey man, what model number is it? I could always use a spare to mod up. I've got two already and three just might be the charm.

I'll give up my Cougar - with over 3 years of near daily virtual flying:

1) When they pry it out of my cold, dead hands
2) When someone else makes a higher performance joystick and software control environment

You know, a Porsche is a lot more expensive than a Chevrolet but some folks believe that the performance benefit offsets the cost. Some don't, that's fine.

I live about 3 miles from a Fry's. Every time I go to the store, I pass the joystick/controller section. Invariably, I have to put my hands on the CH throttle's and Joystick, move them about their axis and think about all the folks here who are so passionate about their CH stuff and so extremely negative about the Cougar.

I almost always end up shaking my head and thinking "It's cheap plastic stuff with a center detent".

When you get down to it, most folks have not ever even used a Cougar. The vast majority of those that have, make their assessments on the stock units with poorly utilized and implemented joystick control files.

The Cougar is a very complex system, hardware and software wise. If that's not your cup of tea, then cool. There is another side to the story.

How many of you "Cougar" trashers out there have ever actually flown with a Uber2NXT equipped stick?

S~

Given the quality of the prostitutes and drugs you can have for less than 200$, I'd go for CH stuff.

Well, I, uh, don't think it's quite fair to condemn a whole program because of a single slip-up, sir.

I'd go with the whole CH set-up, stick, throttle and pedals. It will probably cost about the same as the Cougar by itself. I've got all CH and it's awesome, smooth and reliable. The only problem is no FF, but I can live with it.

If you really want to give your Cougar another try before you toss it, I might be able to help you with some configuration files and a rubber boot mod you could do pretty quickly that would not cost you anything. For prop sims the stock Cougar is too stiff for me. Here's a link to the mod. I highly recommend it if you believe the stick is too stiff (you might not):

http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/mods.php#rubber

I ordered my Uber2nxt about 2 years ago I think. Price depends on US to Australian currency conversion. Several hundred dollars I would think. For me it was worth every cent. I have really enjoyed it and I feel gotten my money's worth out of it. Here are a couple pictures of the U2NXT Mod.

Good luck, let me know if your interested in Foxy config files for IL2.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Wow. I guess this Cougar deal is hard core. Call me a weekend warrior, but a $500+ joystick is too much for me.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
