Perhaps he lost.....his mind.

He must be related to Mark Thatcher.

Perhaps Mr Lake will attempt to organise a coup in a few years time, too?

I agree entirely. I feel more kinship with people from the other side of the globe who share my interests or views than with some of my workmates or neighbours.
Idiots come in all flavours, this one just happens to be British.

Why?

Oh yes. The Peugeot 405.

Aye, just got back, tremendous game. Few too many defensive errors but what a pace. Big credit to Celtic, they gave it everything, and were very unlucky with the penalty.

Someone had to do it:

In tropical climes there are certain times of day
When all the citizens retire to tear their clothes off and perspire.
It's one of the rules that the greatest fools obey,
Because the sun is much too sultry
And one must avoid its ultry-violet ray.
The natives grieve when the white men leave their huts,
Because they're obviously, definitely nuts!

Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun,
The Japanese don´t care to, the Chinese wouldn´t dare to,
Hindus and Argentines sleep firmly from twelve to one
But Englishmen detest-a siesta.
In the Philippines they have lovely screens to protect you from the glare.
In the Malay States, there are hats like plates which the Britishers won't wear.
At twelve noon the natives swoon and no further work is done,
But mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.

It's such a surprise for the Eastern eyes to see,
that though the English are effete, they're quite impervious to heat,
When the white man rides every native hides in glee,
Because the simple creatures hope he will impale his solar topee on a tree.
It seems such a shame when the English claim the earth,
They give rise to such hilarity and mirth.
Ha ha ha ha hoo hoo hoo hoo hee hee hee hee ......

Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.
The toughest Burmese bandit can never understand it.
In Rangoon the heat of noon is just what the natives shun,
They put their Scotch or Rye down, and lie down.
In a jungle town where the sun beats down to the rage of man and beast
The English garb of the English sahib merely gets a bit more creased.
In Bangkok at twelve o'clock they foam at the mouth and run,
But mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.

Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.
The smallest Malay rabbit deplores this foolish habit.
In Hong Kong they strike a gong and fire off a noonday gun,
To reprimand each inmate who's in late.
In the mangrove swamps where the python romps
there is peace from twelve till two.
Even caribous lie around and snooze, for there's nothing else to do.
In Bengal to move at all is seldom ever done,
But mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.

I can't think of anything better to do than help out someone in distress, moron or otherwise (let's face it, most people in distress got there by being a moron). He's certainly a slow learner though, maybe you could open him up and see what makes him go, you know, for medical science. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

How does every single citizen of Australia know to wind up uneducated foreigners about the dangers of Drop Bears? It fascinates me that this grand scale joke is not more widely known!

I've been warned of the huge danger, without prompt, by Austrailians in Vegas, London, Paris, Budapest, Prauge, Riga, Miami.. god knows where else.

Pheh... if you guys think Brits have a monopoly on eeediots trying to kill themselves then you've not been to the States lately... That's what we do best, invent clever ways to kill ourselves... when not inventing ways to kill others...

You could walk up the slopes of Everest on the mumified remains of Yanks with more money than sense... But I must admit this guy's a pretty "ripe prize" for going back. If something almost kills me, I generally tend to give it a wide berth after that.

I almost drowned as a kid and didn't enter water over my head till Drill Sgt. Gamache pushed my *** in for "drownproofing" during basic...

He almost drowproofed me alright, permanently.

You should see all the close shaves I've had. How about drinking from 8.00am till 2.00am on a stag night and ending up looking like this:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/pigman1971/Image030.jpg

The best thing was, I did not trip over due to being drunk, but fell over because of my bad leg (from a bad cycle accident) gave way. The local hospital that helped me got sent money to help one of their fund raising events for equipment.

So a man having (I would guess) some sort of second childhood, gets lost in the outback, and calls for help on his MOBILE PHONE??? Ive got places in my house where I cant get a signal on my mobile phone, and I live in a city. How lost was this guy?
I am proud to be British, but this guy does not help. Give him to Darwin.

If you look at the lower rt on the BBC page, there is an article on an RAF vet of Market Garden setting up a monument to the 75 RAF guys killed in that op in Arnhem. I think that is probably alot more typically Brit. So I wouldnt say you dont have much to be proud of these days.

Ive known alot of guys from here in Yank land (though Im from the south) that have served with Brits in every war from WW1 to the current one, and the worse I ever heard any of them say was that they drank everything at room temp, and that RN ships in WW2 Pacific ops coulda used a bit of cleaning and housekeeping, which they figured was probably neglected due to all the battle damage. (words of a 40mm gunner off Okinawa I know).

Not too bad actually.
