Supposed to be released today, who's interested in this awesome looking sim? Looks like it might successfully combine RTS and Flight Sim Genres :O. Anyone know if the campaign will be playable online in coop?

I saw a screenshot of it in a magazine of a Spitfire Mk.I and it looked real nice but when I downloaded a few videos of it the game looked very poor.

The videos are of early development stages, but apparently ground textures and plane textures aren't it strongest points. Strongest points being, clouds (ai can't see through them!), FX, water, cockpits, and large scale battles as near as I can tell.

Personally I don't care about the no online play... I found online play in IL2 to be very slow paced, repetitive, and dry. The online play in IL2 is awsome as far as Flight Sim online play goes tho.

For me, the textures on planes seem pretty good...

I have never been a big fan of Rowan Sims and this one doesn't seem likely to change my opinion, even if its being published/produced by "Shockwave".

The one thing that I find strange is the only "In Cockpit" Screeny I can find was of the 109 and that could have been a render becaue it was one of the first to come out.

I am going to wait a month or two and see what people are saying.

Take another look at the EB website, they bumped up the release date to 7/12/05.I guess will have to wait,no surprise there.

Well, I do know one da*n thing for sure...I buy nothing anymore until it has been out at least two weeks. That's enough time for the "its great! awsome! etc etc" BS from over zealous people to run its course...
Then if it has a good two weeks reviews & everyone isn't screeming for a patch...THEN & only then I'll buy it...
I am tired of sepnding $$$ on junk that is only half finished or just plain garbage...

The last bummer was Brothers in Arims...played it for a whole 10 days & its now it the drawr & off the computer...

Starwars Battlefront...same scenario,...but only 3-4 days with that piece of cr*p

Medal of honor Pacific wasn't even worth taking the wrapper off the package...

From the SimHQ review at E3:

"The other exciting game I saw was Battle of Britain II from GMX Media. I could really tell that Scott Gentile has really gotten into this game and his enthusiasm has spilled over to many of us here. I honestly was somewhat luke warm towards the title when it was announced. I really liked BoB but didn't think that there would be enough time to significantly improve the original game in the agreed upon development window that Scott had."

"I was wrong; the Shockwave team has really done an outstanding job with what they have so far. I was quite pleased with quite a few of the changes that have been made. The extremely twitchy flight model has been cleaned up significantly and is now much closer to reality. Chunx still thinks that it may be too twitchy at times but overall it is improved."

"The graphics are the major upgrade to the game. BoB had a generally strong physics and game engine design but the graphics were fair to good at best and some aspects of the game looked horrible. BoBII looks much better. The terrain, while maybe not on the LOMAC level, looks much more realistic and the color schemes appear to be much closer to reality. Water textures are massively improved. I honestly cannot wait to see what this game looks like on a high end system."

"Scott was showing us the graphics on a laptop and they looked quite good but I am guessing this was something akin to a GeForceToGo type of vid card and not the latest hardware crunching video box that some of us are considering. The game looked good though, actually quite good. Scott said that most of the coding for the game was done on a GF3Ti equipped computer so those folks with less than top of the line specs should be able to run the game comfortably."

"Probably the most impressive, and improved feature of the graphics is the bomb and smoke effects. The explosion effects are very impressive. I honestly think that the explosion effects rival and probably surpass most other games currently made. What I saw makes the effects without a doubt the best seen in any flight simulation. I mean any. They are better than IL2, better than LOMAC and they come close to, if not surpass the explosion graphics of Silent Hunter III. That is something Scott should be proud of."

"The other graphic improvement that jumps out right at you is the clouds you see in the game. No simulation has better cloud effects; period. The clouds are awe inspiring in this game. Just going up and flying around aimlessly in the sky is one of the more enjoyable aspects of this game."

"The other thing that is improved significantly is the cockpits found in the aircraft. I never thought the pits in the Spitfire or Bf 109 looked that bad in the game until I got a chance to look at the pits that Shockwave has imported into Battle of Britain II. These are absolutely outstanding, and will come as pleasant shock to folks."

That looks promising! and i think Shockwave productions are a smaller development team than Oleg and Co.. Big ++ that the AI can't see through clouds.. and the clouds look killer too!

meself im more of an offline player, but i do enjoy some fun multiplayer sessions too 2 times or so a week,, But the offline play in IL-2 is bloody horrible plain and simple.. i haven't played a singleplayer campaign since i bought the game back in november.. Just fiddeling with the FMB or QMB, or online, or LAN with some other friends of mine...

I am really looking forward to the reviews on this game when it comes out. Seems very promising with clickable cockpits and apparently smarter AI. We'll see how it really pans out, though.

Salute

I buy every single combat flight sim which comes on the market, even Jet sims. (which I don't play)

Why?

Cause the genre needs all the help it can get.

The first Rowan BoB was fun, even though it had flaws. I think the Shockwave version will likely be an improvement. If Oleg can do the strategic BoB as well as Rowan did, it'll be quite an accomplishement.

Ahh, MoHPA - I quite enjoyed that game. Unless there was an aircraft in that part of the level. The way you die in MoHPA is very innovative, and the level design was good. But shooting down Zeros by the dozen with a Thompson submachine-gun, and destroying an aircraft carrier with the machine-guns of the Dauntless spoiled it, unfortunately. I won't install it again.

BoB-WoV should be a good game for anyone into offline campaigns, the only thing I found was that these wern't really designed as pilot campaigns more like you were running the whole show, so there was a lot of planning to be done.
Of course this was three or four years ago when Rowan released it, so things will have changed quite a bit by now.
One other thing that was nicely modelled is the engine start up, overall if you like flight sims it should be worth getting.

I've already been on this wagon beatin the hell out of Shockwave over this , lemme ax some of you how you feel about spending $50 for a strictly offline game WITH only 5 yes friends..
only 5 flyable aircraft ..Spitfire Mk1 , Hurri Mk1 , Ju87 , Me109 & 110..oh and you can be a gunner on an AI bomber for kicks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif , but you get pretty clouds and updated plane graphics ( no cockpit screenies except of a halfdone 109 that was posted awhile back ) and thats it..for u offline peeps enjoy ..hope u like it ..me ? I'll wait till they add an online play & German bomber patch before I spend mama's money..otherwise I'll wait till Oleg's version...when it comes out in 2008 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I am wondering if there will be any online ranking for the players in BoB? That would be great if we can gain ranks in multiplayer mode too. For example for unlocking new planes or ect. and the other pilots will see your rank increase the competition. Any comments?

I'll certainly be buying it. But not because I think it will a great improvement over BoB BDG v0.99. I don't care much about graphics improvements. In fact most of the problems that I had with BoB are not being adressed. I'll be buying it to support Shockwave because they are also redoing B-17 The Mighty Eigth as B-17 The Legend returns. Plans are to finish the Multiplayer part of the game & upgrade the cockpits to full TIR 6DoF compatable.

If those two titles do well then there is a chance that they will be able to turn their attentions to Mig Alley II and/or EECH II. And that's my ultimate hope.

Cheers.......Smokin256

Thanks for the sinhq review Asgeir_Strips. You know Lexx, I agree with you. The real meat of the game should be in offline emersion. Not to buy a quality flight sim because of no multiplayer is pretty lame. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

mmm, some enjoy the Online experience. Some don't. Some like both. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Online can theoretically offer more immersion than Offline, but it will require Pay-to-Play to fund that kind of massive programming effort and continued development as relying on Offline sales to pay for Online programming only cripples Offline play -- crippling the very source of funding! And you will need military style behavior modification effects programmed into the Online sim which may violate business/customer relation laws. Not sure.

I believe BOB11 will have nice airfields, aircraft, cockpits, explosions, clouds, soun d, and water.

It may have a good FM, DM.

I think the game will be highly immersive until you try to find your way back home. Matching the poor ground terrain with the ugly in-flight map will be the immersion killer for me.

I will probably buy the sim. It may turn out to be a real gem, but I do have a few reservations.
