WHAT?

XyZspineZyX
08-14-2003, 05:52 PM
Which game do you own?

IL-2 Sturmovik
IL-2 FB
IL-2 FB v1.1b

You have to adjust for the engine torque on take off for one. (A little rudder should do)
Pick up enough speed 170-200km/h before EASING back on the stick.
Yanking motions in this game will leave you spent.

Please stop shouting and learn some basic grammar.
That way you can get some assistance on these boards.

Otherwise, I am embarassed to have you as a countryman. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

pressing "I" to get the engine start, slowly pushing the throttle up to 100%, waiting till youre about 120-150km/h fast and then softly pulling the stick back/ taking off

...like in any other flight sim... watch your speed and watch that you dont stall by pulling the stick back too hard.... needs some practise... but actually it works for me /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Hi, I do not understand why you are having so many problems. Maybe your joystick is not calibrated correctly.

As soon as you start rolling forward you'll need to counter the torque effect of the engine by applying rudder, the plane will start to bank to one side (I fly a bf109 so this it banks a lot). To counter the banking, you need to apply aileron, meaning roll - push the joystick to the side.

So basically to need to yaw and roll to stay straight.

Try practicing with a ME262 because it's doesn't have the torque effect of a single-engined prop plane.

Good luck.

120-150 is where I feel comfertable taking off but I wouldn't suggest it for a noobie. Heck I'd advise him to hug the ground after take-off until he picks up even more speed. At least until he gets the hang of it.

Hug the ground, lmao. Why in the hell would I hug the grond when I'm just going to be a crater in it shortly after take off. I'm new to the flight sim genre and I have to admit to being overwhelmed but I can take off and land now. I just wish I could shoot something down once in a while.

XyZspineZyX

i guess this is the reason why realistic taildragger handeling isnt in the game

XyZspineZyX

The rotation of the engine creates torque on the airframe. Like other people here have mentioned you counter this with a litle rudder and perhaps some aileron should your plane start to roll. Depending on the plane you might want to keep your wheels on the ground for as long as possible because the faster you are going the less likely you will be to stall out and crater. Be very gentle with the stick and slow with the stick especially at slow speed. Remember best climbing speed is close to 300Kmph so dont try to climb like a F18 when you are just in the air at 180Kmph.
Even if you are frustrated beyond beleif please reserve the caps lock for life or death situations. Taking some time to try to compose correct sentences will also give yourself an edge in credability. I mean you did take the time to say please and thank you. Im sorry dont mean to preach.
As for n00b. Just wait till you start getting kills. Far beyond that is online kills. It is far more thrilling than your first ut2003 kill. My first I ran into the living room jumping and screaming. Im sure my roomie wanted me commited.

Lenny!

If you expect someone to read your post, think about the solution, and then think about how to explain it in an easily understandable way, then YOU, too, have to sit down, think about your answer and try to find a way of making the question easily understood by those who read it.

And another tip: BEFORE you click on "POST", re-read what you´ve written, ´cause if YOU can´t understand it, you can´t go expecting others to spend their time trying to figure out what you meant.

Now, the reason you´re having trouble taking off is that this game models torque effect quite well. That´s the result from the propeller spinning (Try holding a spinning bicycle wheel between your hands, note the "resistance" and the tendency to spin more easily in one direction than in the other). To counter this "sideways" movement, use your rudder (opposite to the aircraft´s movement during take off) as real-life pilots do.

As was mentioned in a thread months ago, if you are playing a no-cd copy of the game, a hidden intentional bug makes taking off much harder. To fool this bug, make a full roll once you are off the ground. Then lift your landing gear up, and you`ll be OK.

XyZspineZyX
08-14-2003, 11:06 PM
A plane takes off by himself, do this ( just this) set trim to raise your nose just a little(!), floor the flaps , set radiator to 4, set prop to 85, keep the brakes, and push the trottle full, wait a sec, then release the brakes, aplly rudder and when you reach 160km/h, release the stik, but just roll slighty your plane to counteract torque, and leave the plane pitch alone . It will takeoff slighty, and whet in air retract the flps and gear.
See, verry easy.
The trik is to have your stik well calibreated.
To land: exact thing but in reversed order.( with the necesaires modif.).
Funny thing, I allwis considered the IL2 the easiest plane to takeoff and land.....even with heavy damage.../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

press 'I', push throttle all forward (forget the slowly part unless you are in a 262) use stick to prevent plane from rolling, pitching, etc. at 130kph, easy stick back. press 'g' to retract gear. fly. aim. shoot. kill. die. repeat.

If you are having problems, turn off torque and stalls - it is not compulsory to play full realism. Hell, turn off take-off and landing.

It comes down to practice. When you can take of and land without torque and gyro effects, turn them back on. This is what the realism options are for. To be used.

If you are playing on line, well, don't until you can take off. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

put the biggest bomb in the plane that is allowed (500kg+ is enough) and use 10 second bomb delay.

start engine and put it on 15% and immideately after that release the bomb and press ctrl+e. This will make the plane lighter and soo u see it go across the sky.

It's all about learning so dont worry if it dont work in the first 35 times.
