I went by the Guitar Center to pick up some new strings last Friday... I hear this voice calling me back into the acoustic room. I already have a 77 Fender Jazz Bass, a Tacoma CB10 acoustic

a Ibanez SR505

So I really wasnt in the market ... Then I saw this...

5 string, fretless, gorgeous... and it sounded good too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif . Not quite as warm and full as the Tacoma.. but nothing that a amp couldnt fix. Played real well... chords or runs.. up high down low.. and get this... it was on sale for $399.99.. I couldnt pass it up. This week the same axe is on sale for $549... It lists for $785... Oooooo baby

You're supposed to be saving for a wide screen monitor.

Nice...
Your a bass player...
What type of music floats your boat?
Early influences?

I'm a fellow musician. I sang in a Grunge/indie Rock band for 7 years. I also play guitar.
In the early days I loved Santana, Page, Hendrix, and Iommi...
These days Jimmy Nolen and Joe Messina (and Jimmy Page LOL) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

EWF, Stevie, Jamerson, Graham, Clarke.... I like Wooten, Jaco.. geeze there are so many good bassists out there now.. I play mostly in church now... but that can cover anything from tradional gospel to jazz, funk, rock, country. I played in a Dead band for a few years when I was in my 30s.... I like James Taylor and Acoustic Alchemy, Israel Haughton, Martha Munizzi.... So much good stuff out there...

The widescreen... yeah.. the widescreen.... Well I figured my 19" is doing the job for now... and.... it was $399.... $399....

I am going to try to sell the Tacoma though.... it's a great bass.. but I really dont need two acoustics.. I'd be willing to let it go for $650... It's in mint condition with a Hardcase. Only had it @ 2 years. It retails new for $999.. I saw one used on eBay for $750. I think I'll put it up there and see what I get.

I read in 'War Guitars, 1939-1945' by Alan Smithee (ISDN 154237688) that the Tacoma CB10 was well loved by it's 'pilots', but was known to break up in an extreme powerslide. The Ibanez SR505 apparently had a tendency to buffet violently at low pitch. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Nice bass Bearcat! I'm still hooked on the fretted variety. But my stepdaughter plays violin (she's a lead violinist btw) so I have respect for those with the digits who KNOW where those sharps and flats are http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Very sweet! I've been in the market for a fretless for some of the mellow songs that my band plays, and that might be one to look at..........though I really want a fretless Jazz bass, too.

Bearcat, I'd love to see a pic of that '77 Jazz, if you have one.

I'm a bass player myself Mr. Cat.
At the moment i'm sporting an Ibanez SR800LE which suits me fine. It has quite an aggressive sound which is cool as i tend towards the heavier end of the spectrum: bugger all wrong with a bit of funk now and again though.
that fretless looks the business, nice find.
keep flapping those trousers.
