My son likes the Friday nite air races and would like to create his own circuits and host some races of his own on Hyperlobby. Does anyone know how the starting countdown timer works? It seems to be automated. Is this something he can download or create somehow?

Thanks

Phalcon51:

The "countdown timer" is a script. Impressive, huh?

I've seen both kajr & Skiri-ki use it while hosting air races. Possibly Painter as well. Not 100% positive who wrote it and who's got it.

I'm sure that one of them will respond once they see your subject header.

Thanks, Zomby Woof.

Could you (or anyone else) explain to me what a script or scripted server is and what it's purpose is? I'm afraid I'm a complete dummy when it comes to this stuff. Is this stuff easy to learn, and where can I find info on it?

There may be some info at: http://www.il2airracing.com/

You might also try a PM to either of the above mentioned hosts.

Thanks Tully,

I tried IL2airracing.com already, but didn't find any info there. I'll try PM'ing them later today, unless they respond to this post.

Not sure if it's the one I wrote for Blitzpig Raven as I don't air race.

Just make a new no-extension file called racestart and insert text below via notepad. Place this file in the IL2FB root folder on the server.

timeout 5000 chat And we're in the hands of the Starters TO ALL
timeout 8000 chat Gentlemen, start your engines. TO ALL
timeout 12000 chat RED RED RED TO ALL
timeout 13500 chat RED RED TO ALL
timeout 15000 chat RED TO ALL
timeout 16500 chat GREEN - GO GO GO! TO ALL
___

The timeouts are in thousandths of seconds and send to all players. You execute the file remotely by typing "file racestart" at console.

The chat line will then print:

And we're in the hands of the starters (5 seconds after script executed)
Gentlemen, start your engines
RED RED RED
RED RED
RED
GREEN - GO GO GO!

hobnail,

Sorry to sound so ignorant, but is "file racestart" typed from within the game on the chat line? Are there any official instruction on how to do this sort of thing in the manual or elsewhere?

Thanks

Heavydelta... you assclown.

I'm intrested in this too, i love air racing its alot of fun, not enough people try it.
Haven;t bothered with the start script, so far only raced with my squad and i do countdown via comms, but still would like to know.

They are very good gliders, but they try to do clever acrobatics and looping. But they will stick it even if things are going against them, where as the Jerries will run." Beurling in Malta Spitfire

IL2's commandline interface is accessed by typing > at the chat line or by shift-tab. To return to normal, backspace out the > or, press-shift tab.

so from the chat line you'd press tilde key, then type >file racestart

Painter wrote the script that we use to start the countdown timers... anyone can use it to start a race not just the host...

the link to the scripts and site are below:

word of advice in making a course... you don't need nearly as many smokestacks or racing pylons as you think you do... download one of the maps i have made at www.il2airracing.com (http://www.il2airracing.com) and look at them in FMB... we race on Friday nights at 9pm and when I host it is a clean server otherwise they get the boot...

ohh yeah.. to use it download the files in the main FB folder...

start the command in the command prompt with this command:

>start file_30 or >start file_60

there is a good readme included

Thanks Skiri-ki, that readme helped me lots.
I looked for racing server on Friday night, showed up at 9:30est though, too late i think.

Hmm, just joined a dogfight but the script wouldn't work, maybe its the server? I copied exact instructions to rcu file and placed the scrips in FB folder/

I can't get this script to work.
I followed the read me instructions exactly.
I join a DF in progress and type the lies in console.
It says command not file.
I renamed the files to .dat, there in FB main folder, the rcu file i added the text to the bottom, still doesn't work.
What the hell?
