Im going to write a review of Forza 2 for people over the next few days. Its a great survey racing sim, physics are very very close to GTR-2s. Lovely graphics and it runs at a sweet constant 60fp.

I just got 1.24.021 driving a DBR9 on Laguna Seca,

****ing rock on Lol

Got it for my Birthday 2 days ago http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Online is awesome, only thing that pisses me off is there is no proper qualifying. People have had to sort of create there own and keep logs of peoples time trials to qualify for tourneys onlibe

Should be labeled OT http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm a big fan of the original Forza. I don't have a 360 yet so I haven't bought the sequel yet...in all due time. I'm a bit miffed that there are no point to point races but the rest of it looks and sounds really good to me. Its missing the Mazdaspeed 3 too...which that was in there.

Get a 360, this is the Il2 of racing sims. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Arghh theres so much content, I promise to do a full write up tomoz

GTR2 is the falcon 4

I just spent 4 hours twiddling with my DB9 to get it set up for Laguna Seca and its still not freaking perfect, I reckon I can squeeze another second out of her at least maybe even 2

All the cars handle differently as well, its brilliant

Oh god Ive got to buy myself a kart and start real racing

Really? how close, as GTR2 is my current driving sim of choice and I'm not bad at it, last time I looked on GTR2Rank, top 10 NGT Top 20 GT (in an un-competative car).

Never got on with console style titles in the past, been driving on PC since Geoff Crammonds GP1 and Papy's INDY 500.

I know console racers are getting better, a mate of mine that did the netcode for GTR and GTR2, Steve Wilson, switched sides now works on 360 games.

So I suppose my point is, does it beat a PC yet?

I had actually contemplated getting myself a 360 just to play this game. Just need to work out how to sneak this one past my wife what with spending 's on upgrading my rig recently...

Not quite..no clutch pedal http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif, however its tire modeling is awesome and the force feedback is way better when coupled with MS new racing wheel than GTR-2

Its close, the cars feel little heavier to me than gtr-2

you wont get gtrs feeling of speed however until you get onto the really fast purpose built gt cars

My dad used to race a Jag E-Type at track days, he certainly likes Forza 2s E-type...apparently it has all the handling quirks of the real thing

Thanks Aimail, the GFX look nice obviously, if the physics are anywhere near close, might be worth me giving in to the kids and getting a 360

Though with a recent investment in a G25 wheel, that might be a while http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You can also do a 3 monitor setup with it and still get 60 fps http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

AIs a little stupid though...well not stupid but irritating sometimes, so try to get online..... the offline events are bit more gamey than simmey for example theres no qualifying and the races arnt real life events

Overall its a better package than GTR

I always just had fun with the simulation/tuning aspects of the original game. I imagine the new game does the same only better. The fact that you could take a perfectly ordinary Accord Coupe, VW Golf, or drifting favourite the Toyota AE86 and tune the heck out of them with all sorts of upgrades was just so much fun. You'd have this very ordinary looking car with awesome racing potential in their class.

I saw in a picture that they have a 2006 GTI (or 2007) in there too. Very nice http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah, tbh the Endurance races in LMPs are my favorite at the moment....especially on Nurburing

Although I do like tuning things like DB9s, 360 Modenas etc....Im not really into the boy racer cars heheheh...Im in search of the perfect S-Class car for my style of driving at the moment...High corner entry speeds, Good breaking ability, and rear wheel stability and traction whilst accelerating out of low-mid speed corners. I have this thing for outbreaking people on dodgey corners

Its all great though

Youd be right in guessing that it does upgrading/modification and tuning better

For example, now there are hundreds of tires to choose from. All with different attributes

I dont like modifying classic cars though

Right Im going to give an un-setup Panoz LMP a whirl on Laguna Seca and see If I can get near to 1.05

The feeling of the ms wheel driving forza 2 compared to GTR2 and a G-25 wheel?
No comparison at all, forza 2 is a console game best played with a stock game pad controller, fact.
A better comparison is calling forza2 crimson skies, its fun but not a racing sim.

Uhhh how much of Forza 2 have you played with the wheel....its far easier to get good times with the wheel

The Physics aren't quite as good, but they're still great.

I'f youve only played the demo....well the full games feels somewhat different

You didn't have the option to set the MS wheel up in the demo either

On a side note the fastest Ive pushed it so far is 1.14.32 in a Panoz LMP...to tired to fiddle with it and practice more

The physics are as least as good as IL2s FM is! Remember, Il2 doesn't exactly have the most amazing FM in the world. So quit being snobby

I see no tearing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif so yeah

GTr-2 has its own problems anyway, to much freaking grip whilst the original has stuff all.

GTR, GTL, and GTR2 have tyre physics holes you could drive a bus though, ie the slip curves for the tyres are copied for longitudinal and latidual (sp?), which doesn't sound much, but it's the sim equivalent of getting the Mona Lisa and putting Dulux paint all over it.

So there

Forza? No...its from Turn 10 which is a Microsoft studio. I know...sounds bad...but they are all driving enthusiasts (freaks?) and they really have a passion for the cars. The original on XBox is the best racing game I've played to date...I've played a fair few and most feel somewhat simple/arcade like to me...which is ok but sort of less serious. Forza is good...the AI is challenging (although annoyingly aggressive) and the tuning is a blast. Its a sim sort of like IL-2 for racing...which is hard to find on a console.

GTR2 doesnt' even model physics of a real racing car very well in the first place. The technique to drive in GTR2 is to exploit these physics holes to the maximum. The nature of the GTR2 tyre model is such that from 0 to 6 degrees slip angle, there is a massive increase in lateral grip. This means that driving the car slightly sideways is incredibly faster than keeping the front end exactly following the rear end.

The other trick is that once you exceed the tyre slip angle max grip coefficient, the degredation is nearly linear, meaning that there is nearly no penalty for being hyper aggressive with the car.

So if you have good controls, alot of experience and a bit of skill , you can get what appear at first to be unrealistic times.

However GTR-2 is definately better in areas

Forza 2s physics are better than Forza 1s but here are some real track times compared to Forza 1s

Road America:
.....Real- 1:39.866, set Dario Franchitti in the Champ Car World Series in 2000
.....Forza- 1: 1:38.111, set by Dr Shocker Phd in the #12 Ferrari F333
................2: 1:38.328, set by TTR Picaso V2 in the #27 Toyota TS020

Nurburgring:
.....Real- 6:11.13, set by Stefan Bellof in a Porsche 956 in 1964
.....Forza- 1: 6:18.279, set by PpR Z Man in the #27 Toyota TS020
........... ....2: 6:18.908, set by Z Man 08 in the #27 Toyota TS020

Silverstone (Full Length):
.....Real- 1:18.739, set by Michael Schumacher in a F1 Ferrari in 2004
.....Forza- 1: 1:24.340, set by TTR Picaso V2 in the #12 Ferrari F333
............. ..2: 1:24.645, set by Fyrebyrd in a the #12 Ferrari F333

Disagree 85%, tire model is a bit off sure. In recent years, having driven rFactor and LFS S2, as well as all the previous Simbin/Blimey products (IE The supposed top PC racing sims), I can say without doubt that all PC race sims have similar flaws.

You mention tricks, there are no tricks, people will take whatever they can get out of the game, just as they do in IL2 or anything else they want to be competative in.

Also if 'you' pay no penalty for over-driving the car, you're not pushing hard enough. Or are only doing sprint races, not endurance which is where you WILL pay penalties for over-driving

Forza2 is a game based on Physics, thats really what it does well. And TBH it outshines GTR-2 in that respect. Its physics are very similar to Live for Speeds.

It doesnt immerse you into a race weekend.
It doesnt have more than 8 cars at a time.
It doesnt have Qualifing
It doesnt have the best graphics, well for Sims it does.
It doesnt have a 3d cockpit view.
It doesnt have a mirror with the hood view.
It doesnt have dymanic Pitting. AI controls most of the pit process.
It doesnt have time cycles or weather.

It does have the best telemetry ever seen in a race sim.
It does have the most realistic feeling Physics i've ever played.
It does have the best online interface ever in a racesim. Car trading, painting, etc etc, all without the need for league downloads and photoshop.
It does have voice com for everyone without 3rd party programs.
It does have the abilty to set long race lengths online.
It does have the best damage model ever seen in a road racing sim.
It has the re-playability value of IL2

ALL IN MY OPINION..

Sounds like you need to do some research.

I will do a full review very soon, busy with exams

Just because its a console game doesn't mean its arcade, remember GTR-2 is coming to the 360 as well

Some of the Ferrari GT teams have been using it to train there drivers, Ill find out which ones at some point

People are raving about it over at RCSnet and remember those guys are racing sim nutsos

Well TBH, it sounds like an alternative to GTR2 to me, not a replacement.

Your list of cons makes that clear to me. Apart from hood view mirror (don't care about hood view) every one of those things are very important to me.

Still I can't diss something I haven't tried. I can only take your word on the pro's.

Oh and I am one of those RSCers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We don't all agree on anything, hence the wide number of game specific sections.

Sounds like GTR2 is a very serious simulation while Forza offers a bit more of a mix. All I can say is that I was impressed with the original being very un-console like in terms of how seriously it approached how the cars drive and what you could do with them.

It wasn't Mario Kart, it wasn't Need for Speed, or anything like that. This was serious racing with real cars and lots of tuning and telemetry and modification and whatever you wanted to do with the cars. I enjoyed the career mode immensely (where you start in a region, buy a car from that region, earn money by winning races and then expand from there - its really streamlined and smooth).

I can't say its the best because I don't have the experience and frankly there often isn't just one best game that does everything so well that there is nothing the competition can offer. But I'd say that based on the previous games reputation and the reviews I'm reading...if you like racing and cars and you have a 360 you'll probably enjoy playing this game. Thats probably the point http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

hey tom you bish, how you bin?

I aint got a 360, only a PS2, but im a GT4 nut but it seems quite basic nowadays the more i learn about cars, im looking for something to sink my teeth into. How does Forza compare to GT4? Is it worth buyin a 360 for, when considering the other games also available on the X360? Ive seen the ads and the enthusiasm for the game, so im glad to hear a trusted friend has got it. I am curious as to whether you can fit body kits to your car as well as tune every inch of it?

Oh, you hittin up Legends this year?
