Do my eyes deceive or is that Landing Craft in the background doing about thirty knots! I can just imagine the fun I could have in the FMB. All the best, LongHorn

I don't know how fast this one is, but I'm sure it isn't the world's fastest. Here you'll find some faster landing crafts (http://aquaglide.ru/history_e.htm).

Cool link, plumps. I've always loved the Ekranoplans, I've seen film of them in action a couple of times, and it's bloody impressive. They have a sort of sci-fi through a Soviet lens kind of feel, in a great too-ugly-to-be-anything-but-cool way. Tres cool.

How do you know that the carrier is moving?

I have only been on slow landing craft. An LST, to be precise.

It turns out the ferry I took from Point Orient to New London, Conneticut just last week was formerly LST 510, that landed on the beaches at Normandy on June 6th, 1944.

It's battle honors are on a plaque on either side of the bridge.

Ya might get about 8-10 knots out of an LCVP such as pictured. With a transom stern though, they leave a pretty good wake!
