View Full Version : Meet your new community moderator!

At least one of you (Wilhelm!) has noticed that I now have the word 'Moderator' above my avatar.

Yes, as of yesterday, I am now an official SH3 forum moderator, along with RedTerex and Targ! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif EDIT: and of course TASKFORCE1x1 (sorry TF!)

The idea came to me when we had that log-in/cookie problem several weeks ago. I felt that we needed a regular member to be able to find out what's going on when problems like that happen.

By the way, being a mod doesn't automatically give me direct access to all the answers (mods are very low in the food-chain!), but I will try my hardest to find out what's going on if we get technical problems again.

How I can help you
In the highly unlikely event that any of you have a problem with the content of an SH3 forum thread or the behaviour of another member, please tell me (or RedTerex/Targ/TASKFORCE1x1) about the problem in a PM (private message). I can then look into the problem and try to resolve it.

In case you don't know how to send a PM:

1. Click on the member's forum name (e.g. where it says VikingGrandad on the left side of this post). A menu should appear.
2. Choose 'Invite [member name] to a Private Topic'
3. Fill in the form and submit it. Your message can only be seen by the person you send it to.

If you've got 'notifications' switched on, you will get an e-mail when you get a response to a PM. Otherwise, this is how you can check your PM's, old and new:

1. Click on the 'Go' button in the top left of every forum page. A menu should appear.
2. Choose 'My Space' > 'Private Messaging'

Please don't PM me if you need help with a technical/tactical problem with the game. Just post in the forum as normal.

In the 14 months I've been a member of this forum, it has needed almost no moderating, so I don't expect my role to change much, as I follow most of the threads here anyway http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

By the way, since we are all Herr Kelauns here does that mean Adm Doentiz has promoted you - what's your rank now?

Thanks Goose.

In the grand scheme of things, I'd like to think my rank is now Flotilla Commander, but in reality it's more like 'cabin boy' http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

You know how Vikings treated their kings?
They were held responsible for every single thing. For instance; if the crops failed the king was deposed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

I have only one wish.
Since you are now our resident tro....pardon mod, I have no doubt that those rare disputes that occur can be solved in a U-bootwaffe manner.

I get spots when I see the Targ`s avatar http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Anyway LONG LIVE OUR KING !

Naturally. For the most part, this forum moderates itself when it comes to disputes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I think we require a right of passage, to prove the status there are a few to pick.

You could pick a large iron ball form a boiling pot and carry it 20 paces?

Fight a large mythical serpant?

Stay out all night and face the bride?

Only then can we accept our new leader..

Like in the rest of Europa kings was electet, but when he was electet, it was for life. dont know if it was difrent in sweden or danmark.

Thanks again everyone!

@ RJ - no need to cancel. I've already handed UbiRazz a note from my mum to tell him I am going on holiday http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

@ Alex - I like your idea of an initiation test... Hot iron balls - errr... no... The wrath of VikingGrandma...? There would be nothing left of me to moderate with! A fight with a large mythical serpent...? OK, you find one and I'll have a mythical fight with it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

@ BR - you can send me all the cash you like, but no amount of money is going to stop the Ubi heavyweights ripping down your mega-sig if they ever see it!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif I've already had comments from another mod about the size of mine! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Hey VG, a welcome move, having friends in high places puts us all a tad closer to the seat of power. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

1st job should be to sort out the 'stickies', reducing/getting rid of the irrelevant and adding more current stuff. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

More critically, can I have my avatar back now!!!!??? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Umm. . .

VG, you do know that the maximum allowed sig size is 150 pixels in height and 400 pixels in length don't you. . .? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Congrats on the mod status though! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

VikingGrandad
07-06-2006, 03:44 AM
@ Doug - I already had those stickies in my sights, don't worry! They will be 'rationalised' in good time.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif @ Brewster - yeah I know about the official 500 x 150 pixels signature size.... However, no-one, including the other SH3 mods, has ever complained about it (yet! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif). I suspect the reason that I've not had my sig removed is that it fits the other official criteria - maxiumum file size of 64KB (mine is just 41KB). I think file size is more important, as a big file size would be a pain for people with slower internet connections. However, we do have to be sensible about the width and height too. Common sense is the best rule here!

Unless we start getting complaints about it, I'm happy for everyone's signatures to remain just as they are http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

PS - if anyone has signatures that are bigger than 64KB (65536 bytes), please try to get the file size down by using more JPEG compression. Some software is better at doing this than others. After many years of experience, I have found that Macromedia Fireworks consistently provides the best file sizes and image quality - even better than Photoshop.

If any of you want me to try and reduce the file size of your sig graphic, just let me know.

(to find out how big your sig is, right-click on it and select 'Properties')

Orginally posted by UbiRazz:
Avatars & Sigs; Keep them clean and appropriate. Determination of what is clean and/or appropriate is at the sole discretion of the admins and mods. Violators will not be warned and will be banned. Consider this your first and final warning. If you think your sig or avatar may be inappropriate, it probably is, so don't risk a ban over it. This will be strictly enforced, regardless of who the perpetrator is.

If an uber-mod threatened to ban you for your avatar, then there's probably nothing I can do about it. Their threat seems a little over the top, given it contains no nudity. You'll have to take a chance on this one Doug, or just play it safe?

If there are any complaints from other members, I'd advise you to get rid of your avatar immediately. We'd rather have you here, even without your avatar http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
